Over the weekend the boything and I went out for lunch to celebrate our friend Aleks’ birthday and his engagement to my good friend Penny.
Or so we thought… once we arrived we were told it was actually their wedding day! Surprise!
Before we left for lunch I insisted that we take a couples selfie. We work opposite schedules at the moment, so a shared day off is very rare. As you can see, we need a bit of selfie practice – when Douglas is taking the photo he cuts me out, and when I’m taking it I cut him out. Oops.
I thought that this was a great occasion to wear my new dress from Hope & Harvest. It was a stunning winter’s day on Saturday – brilliant blue skies and plenty of sunshine – but still quite chilly, so this dress was perfect. If you’re thinking this dress seems familiar, you’d be right – I also have it in cobalt blue and wore it to the Very Vintage Day Out this year.
I’ve got to be honest – I actually didn’t wear the flower crown to the wedding (although I would have if I’d known it was going to be a wedding!), but I feel like I don’t wear it nearly enough and it is too fabulous not to include in my photos.
I even managed to have matching nails. A fortuitous coincidence? Check them out here.
I didn’t take a camera with me (why would I? Who takes a camera to lunch?) but luckily I had my trusty iPhone and got a couple of quick snaps of special moments (not the ceremony – I was too busy holding in the tears).
It was the perfect occasion – quiet and laid back with no fuss, and totally suited to the bride and groom. Thanks for inviting us to be part of your special day, Penny and Aleks!

The day wouldn’t be complete without a cheesy grin from me…
Your guything is the luckiest guything on the planet. I hope he knows it!
That looks fab on you! I came here after reading the article in the Sunday Star Times – I just had to find out where you got that amazing dress.
Aw, thanks Angela! Hope & Harvest have so many amazing clothes, you should check them out! Just a heads up, they have a new collection dropping tomorrow and it’s gorgeous! xM
How cool! I’d love to go to a surprise wedding! What an awesome idea! You look gorgeous in pink Meagan and you so should wear that flower crown more often! x
You look SO beautiful! I love you in pink! That dress is gorgeous, it looks super comfy! I love flower crowns but I don’t feel I wear mine enough either! What a great day, a surprise wedding, I don’t think I could have kept that a secret!
So pretty! I love how pink and happy and fun your entire outfit is, and your nails are awesome too. 😀
Love the outfit and the flower crown. Perfect for a surprise wedding. What a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
That is 100% the most awesome way to have a wedding – I am secretly planning the same. 🙂
I think you should rock the flower crown more often, it is beautiful.
Found you a little while ago, you’re in my feedreader, so when you post something I get to see it. Not sure if I managed to leave a comment already or not but wanted to make sure I did this time – I’m loving your blog. 🙂
Good on you! I’m undecided – I suspect that seeing as organising my friends and family is like herding cats I will need to be very specific about what is happening!
I’m thinking I might rock the flower crown more over summer. As a casual thing with jeans, perhaps?
Thanks for following me! xo
The pink really suits you = yip Ive been to a secret wedding/vow renewal.. so exciting
Thanks Lisa! And I think it’s exciting too! I love a good surprise, especially when it’s something so lovely! 😀
God, Penny looks amazing, you look amazing. Your figure makes the dress. STUNNING. xx
Your flower crown is so fab, and I love this kind of wedding, no fuss and it looks so beautiful and fun. Your pink dress is wicked, I love the cowl neck. 😀 x
Oh you should have worn the flowers, they are gorgeous! Loved that colour on you on Saturday, brightening up such a lovely crisp winters day.
That dress is gorgeous Meagan! and what a super surprise…. starting to wish we’d done ours like that with all the stress of planning a big day haha! xx
Thanks! And I think it’s a great idea – I love the idea of something low key, not so keen on stressful planning! I know your day will be stunning though Caitlin, I’m sure you’ve got it all under control! xo
