Brought to you by Farmers – Your Department Store
There’s something about monochrome that seems so crisp and clean, don’t you think? Wearing basic black and white is a great way to start experimenting with different patterns, fabrics and cuts of clothing.
When I went in to Farmers – Your Department Store recently to have a browse through their new season styles, I immediately noticed all of their great monochrome pieces. I thought that this would be a great chance to push my style a little and wear something a little more abstract and floaty than my usual style.
I love the drape of this sleeveless abstract top, it hugs my curves and enhances my waist while skimming over my hips and stomach. Because I have a large bust, I decided to wear it with a plain black tank top underneath so it doesn’t show off my bra/too much cleavage – yes, there is such a thing as showing off too much, especially if you’re wearing it to the office!
I was working from home, so I chose leggings for this outfit. The top is long enough that I feel comfortable about wearing leggings as pants with it, especially because the Wild Child City leggings are quite thick and I didn’t find them see-through at all. That’s the deciding question when I’m wondering if a pair of leggings can be worn as pants – can you see my underwear. No? All good!
If you’re wanting something a bit more substantial than leggings to wear with this top, I’d recommend jeggings or ponti pants, tailored trousers or jeans – depending on the look you’re going for.
For those of you wondering why I get dressed up when I am working from home (because this is something I often have people ask me) – while it might be a dream to be able to stay in your pyjamas and work from home, I feel really unmotivated when I do that. I’m much more productive when I get up, have a shower, get dressed and treat the day like a regular work day. If you work from home, are a stay at home parent or are unemployed, I recommend you do the same when you can – you will achieve so much more in your day!
One of my favourite finds from Farmers this season is this handbag – I’ve been carrying it everywhere as it’s the perfect size to fit all of my things in! Aside from the size, I also love the broguing detail – you can check out some close-ups of that here.
A lady needs a little hint of lace every now and then – I’ve decided to wear mine on my feet with these cute sneakers. They even have ribbons for laces! Now that we’re moving in to spring I’m shelving the ankle boots and reaching for sneakers…
Visit your local Farmers – Your Department Store to check out these great new styles, and pop over to the Farmers website to see Your Style Edit!
How will you be wearing monochrome this spring?

That top looks great on you! I tried it on last night and sadly it really didn’t suit my body shape. I did buy an awesome black and white stripe top tho, perfect for the office in spring.
Thanks Mel! While this top may not have worked for you, it’s awesome to hear that you found something you liked! I love that there are so many options for different shapes within the range that Farmers offers.
Couldn’t agree more about getting dressed everyday when you’re at home! Being a full-time SAHM I find if I don’t start the day like I did when I was working, I don’t achieve a lot! So I do exactly the same – shower, dressed nicely (most days) and hair/makeup if I’m going somewhere. Feels much nicer than just putting on track pants and a t-shirt!
Love that top, would be a great addition to my summer wardrobe 😉
It’s a great way of establishing routines with your kids too! And saves you from greeting the courier in your nightgown – something I’ve done more than once haha
Oh yes I’ve been caught out a few times by the couriers!
