It’s Queen’s Birthday weekend and I thought that this was a great reason to break out my tutu and fur capelet (like I even need an excuse!). It’s gotten really cold over the last week, with the winter weather arriving promptly on the first of June.
While I do wear a lot of head to toe black, when it’s cold I like to break that up with warm colours like mustard and wine – they’re colours that work so well with black and have a really warm and cosy feeling about them.
With the blacks that I am choosing to wear, I’m going for texture. Like this luxurious faux fur capelet which is so snuggly! When I got it I had the intention of saving it to wear when I was going out somewhere fancy but I have decided that life is too short and if I feel like wearing it on a Monday, I will. Even if I am just going down to the grocer, which is where I went today.
I ended up getting this capelet in a size 12, which is obviously quite a bit smaller than my actual size, because I tried on the sample sizes when I went to a preview of this season’s Chocolat range and I liked the way they sat and didn’t want a capelet with more coverage. I think I would have preferred the 14 so that it sat a bit lower on my arms, but otherwise I’m really happy I sized down – yet another reason we should ignore the size label on our clothes and focus on the fit!
One thing I get a lot of people asking about is the fit of the Society+ tutus. While I sized down with the capelet, I definitely sized up with the tutu after talking to the team at Society+ – they have a really great chat function to help you find your perfect size. I’m usually a size 22 US, which would be a 3X, but underneath the many layers of tulle there is a fitted (non-stretch) skirt and I have a bigger hip and bum measurement so I decided that sizing up to a 5X would be a good idea. I’ve since realised that I probably could have gotten away with a 4X (not that it stops me from wearing this one!) so it might be time to get another tutu. A girl can’t have too many tutus, can she?
Some of you might be thinking “but where the fuck am I going to wear a tutu Meagan, be real”. Well, I’ve worn mine to meetings, to the grocer, to coffee, to drinks… there are plenty of places to wear a tutu! Sometimes I just wear it when I’m working at home to make me feel a little bit fancy.
I don’t think you need a special occasion to dress nicely – I take any possible chance I can to dress in a way that makes me feel good. There is a time for trackpants and a time for tutus, I’m a woman who loves both!
Do you like to dress up or do you prefer to keep things casual?

I love the dress up, I’m probably an over-dresser, but I don’t mind. I don’t think anyone could have too many tutus and I’ve been eyeing the society+ ones for ages, I reallllly love how you styled this one!
Better to be over dressed than under dressed, right?
This look is *flames emoji x 5* I love love love this! Tutus all the time! That reminds me I need to wear my society plus one again soon.
Haha flame emoji, I love it!!!
This colour combo is so pretty Meagan! I LOVE IT! I would totally wear a tutu, just have to find some loose change to afford it haha.
Definitely not a purchase to be made lightly – I saved up and waited for a sale to get mine #thriftyshopper
