As much as I’ve complained about the cold lately, even I have to admit that winter has been pretty mild so far. To be having 17ºC most days in winter is really unusual, it’s more autumnal than wintery, so I’ve been piling on the winter layers but still trying to look cute.
A good jacket is one of my must have winter layers, because it helps to block out the chilly wind. We don’t get snow here in Auckland (apart from that one time a few years ago!), winter is the season of wind and rain. Sometimes at once. And sometimes the rain is sideways…
I really feel the cold so when I say winter layers, there is a lot happening under that coat. Thick cotton stockings, socks and boots. Those anti chafing shorts you use to prevent chub rub in summer? Yep, they’re a great layer for extra warmth in winter! On my top half, a singlet and one top are the minimum for me, and then a cardigan is a great way to add an extra layer without adding too much bulk underneath my coat. Sometimes I go for merino when it’s really cold because it’s thin but keeps me super warm.
How do you layer up to keep warm, what are your essentials?
