On turning 30

When I was a teenager, turning 30 seemed so far off. 30 was old, and I was young. As I got nearer to 30, I watched my older friends suffer a lot of angst about hitting that milestone. Some of them really seemed quite freaked out about “the big 3-0”.

I’ve never had any issues about getting older, and I don’t really understand people’s reluctance to embrace their age. I’ve achieved some amazing things so far, and turning 30 just means I’m beginning another year of fabulousness. Also, let’s be honest  – 30 actually isn’t that old.

In my 20’s I worked for some amazing charitable organisations, made some great friends, survived some pretty terrible relationships and not so great decisions, found love, battled an eating disorder, and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Design and Visual Arts. I farewelled some amazing people, I started my journey to self love, started blogging, became body positive, completely changed the way I look at life, started putting myself first, and won various awards including nzgirl‘s Blogger of The Year for 2013.

Where I used to be constantly negative, putting myself down and looking at the world from under a dark cloud; I now choose to see things in a positive light, treat myself with love and respect and make the most of all the fabulous opportunities that are offered to me.

There’s something about entering my 30’s that makes me feel wiser, more experienced, more ready to take on anything that comes my way. I’ve got some pretty big things planned for my 30’s. Some will be happening over the next little while and some plans will be simmering away in the background, just waiting for the right moment…

I’ll be making a few changes to my blog, with more of a focus on fashion and body positivity. For those of you who wanted to know how I celebrated my 30th birthday: with good friends and good food! I celebrated with my family, my beloved and my very dearest friends. These photos are of my outfit from day four of my birthday celebrations, when I went out to brunch at Al’s Deli with some friends. Such a great day!

How do you feel about turning 30, if you’re not there yet? And if you’ve passed that milestone, do you have any advice for me now I’m in my 30’s?

    Hi Megan.

Loving your outfit. I haven’t got the conference to wear this type of outfit. Enough my other half says. I look beautiful in these type of clothes. You are inspiration to women like me.

Happy Birthday Meagan, I am in the last year of my 30’s and find that it is the decade you spend being the person you want to be. It seems you are already heading that way with your focus on body positivity.

I still pine for my 20’s as there is plenty I would do differently but only to make my 30’s even more enjoyable!

And well done on four days of celebrations, sounds like a theme I could use for my 40th šŸ™‚

Happy Birthday Meagan!!! Sounds like lots of exciting things ahead šŸ™‚

I think a sense of achievement is the big thing. At 27, feeling like my 20’s were speeding by I wrote a 30 Before 30 list – a list of places Iā€™d been meaning to visit, challenges Iā€™d wanted to take on, skills Iā€™d been planning to learn, and personal breakthroughs Iā€™d been hoping to have.

I’m now half way through it and feeling much better about the milestone in 18 months time!

Thanks Sarah! LOVE your 30 before 30 list, it’s such a great way to help you keep your goals in mind. I wrote a 30 x 30 list too, and didn’t really think about it until a few months ago when I found it while cleaning my house. And you know what? I’d achieved everything on my list! Clearly I was setting myself up for my great life…
