I love stories with strong female protagonists, and they’re pretty much my go to when it comes to reading. Before Divergent came out, I read the whole series of books on the recommendation of a few of my friends in the USA and thought that they were amazing. When the first film came out, I fell in love again – this time with the costuming. I know – typical style blogger, right? Almost all of the clothing in Divergent was made especially for the film, with costume designer Carlo Poggioli doing an amazing job of designing outfits for each faction that really represented them and reflected their traits. What is your favourite place to shop?
I prefer to make most of my own clothing and if not, then I like to op shop for the rest. I find the cut and the silhouettes of the clothing way more flattering – plus it’s generally cheaper, you’re recycling and sometimes supporting non profit organisations who provide great community services so it’s a win, win, win! Wardrobe Investment Pieces
When it comes to my wardrobe I have three separate approaches. I have a whole bunch of basics that I’ve bought in really good quality, in fabrics that feel fabulous, and I wear them all the time. These wardrobe staples are my essentials and form the basis of most of my outfits. Then there are the trend based pieces – they’re often seasonal and range from cheap and cheerful to midrange pieces that I think will last well but aren’t what I’d call basics. And lastly, I have the investment pieces. Clothes that I’ve shelled out a bit more money for, because they were so fabulous I had to have them. I don’t have a lot of them, because hello – lady’s on a tight budget – but the ones I have I really cherish. View Post
Colour Me Purple
On the 19th of March 2015, HELP is holding their annual Colour Me Purple charity auction to raise money to help fund their crucial work within our community. Emceed by actor Aaron Ward, the evening’s entertainment will include performances by Kiwi icons as well as both a live and silent auction. Outstanding locally-made art is on offer, as well as amazing experiences, including a walk-on part with local heartthrob and sexual violence prevention educator Sam Bunkle on Shortland Street, a weekend away experiencing Waikato’s Waitomo caves and Hobbiton, and three nights at the Gold Coast in the Sheraton Mirage Resort with flights included. HELP aims to raise $50,000 to help them bridge the funding shortfall they face in delivering their services.
Tickets to Colour Me Purple are limited (but don’t worry, I’ll let you know how you can get yours in just a moment!), and guests are encouraged to wear their best purple attire – so I’ve put together a few of my favourite purple finds to help you look fabulous!
What to wear to a summer BBQ
Brought to you by Long White Vodka
There’s nothing quite like summer in New Zealand. Scorching hot days (preferably spent at the beach), lots of swimming, time spent with friends and family – and the many many BBQs that summer inevitably brings!
