Sustainable plus size fashion

Meagan, a fat Māori woman, stands in front of a yellow door in a black wall. She is wearing a brick red dress with brown marl stockings and black lace up boots.

This dress has easily been one of my most worn items this year.

Over the last couple of years I’ve been thinking a lot more about sustainability and how my love of fashion can be more sustainable. I’m a fashion lover through and through. From making my family sit through “fashion parades” whenever I got new clothes as a kid, through to sharing my style on my blog and Instagram as an adult, I’ve always loved clothes. The way I dress expresses my style, my personality, my mood… and it’s fun!

I’ve been a fashion writer and internet oversharer for more than ten years now, and after reading books like Consumed by Aja Barber and talking at length with friends online, I realised that some of the ways I’ve been talking about fashion and style are not sustainable (either for me or for the planet). Did you know that over 100 billion garments are made every year? I want to limit how much I’m contributing to that over-consumption, while still sharing what I’m passionate about. View Post

Plus Size Leggings

plus size leggings

The debate about whether tights qualify as pants is long standing and is one of those thing that we’re just going to have to agree to disagree on if you’re not a lover of leggings – I’m firmly of the belief that everyone should be allowed to wear whatever they like and rock the hell out of it. How to apply makeup primer

How to apply makeup primer

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect primer ever since I found out what primer was and what it claimed to do. To be honest, for a long time I couldn’t understand what the fuss was. My skin wasn’t silky smooth, I could never get that flawless finish and my makeup never seemed to last any longer than usual. It turns out, I was using it wrong.

And so I bring to you, my tips on how to apply makeup primer … the right way. View Post

Online Shopping Guide

Did you know that it wasn’t until 2013 that I first bought clothing online? As a plus size woman, I found it hard enough to find clothes that fit well in stores and I just didn’t want to risk ordering the wrong size and having to send it back. Fortunately, I did a bit of research and decided to take the plunge (and have to admit I’m a little addicted to the freedom that online shopping offers!), and now I can share my wisdom with you…

How to get fabulously fierce Fashion Week hair

I didn’t get a chance to head down to Wellington Fashion Week this year, because I’m super busy with my final year of uni (which means no fun trips away for me, boo!).  However, I have been avidly watching the instagram/twitter/facebook feeds to see all the goings on.

One show I wished I could have been at was the AW’13 Group Collections Showcase, which featured Trelise Cooper, Moochi, twoWORLDs, STORM, Mondegreen, Sabatini at Goodness, and Taylor. What a wonderful collection of designers!

Something that caught my eye was the hair styling – I love the edgy look pictured above!
