I think that tankinis are the perfect combination of one piece and bikini, because it gives to the freedom to choose different top and bottom sizes (great if you have different measurements like I do!) but still gives you coverage. A number of you have mentioned that this is your favourite style of swimsuit to wear, so I’ve hunted out a few fab tankinis to choose from.
Um, so how cute is this gingham tankini? Such a sweet swimsuit with a retro style. Tops available in sizes 32A to 46H and bottoms in XXS to 7XL.

As I’ve mentioned before, I really like the range of options available in the styles you can find at EziBuy – this tankini comes in three different colourways (including plain black) and is sold as a separate so you can get the style of bikini bottom that you like best. Available in sizes 16-26.

If you don’t want your swimsuit to be clingy on your belly, something flowy like this could be the answer to your prayers. The top has thicker straps and a bit more coverage as well, so if you’re not wanting to show off your boobs as much (or you have a larger bust), that’s worth considering. I love that this comes with boy short style bottoms, because that style makes me feel like I have a bit more coverage as well. Available in US sizes 10-26 (NZ 14-30).
SHOP IT: Shore Club Bloom Flowy Boy Shortini, USD $51.80 from Swimsuits For All
Y’all know how much I love animal print, right? What I like about this tankini is that even though you can get a matching bottom for it, you could also choose to go for a plain black bottom and then mix and match your tops. Because having options is awesome! Available in CC sizes XS-XL (14-24).

In my bikini post last week, I mentioned how cool the Elomi swimwear range was, and this tankini fits in perfectly with that. It’s not underwired and is designed to be worn with the Elomi swim bra if you want that extra support. Spoiler alert: I definitely want that extra support, so I’m going to try on some of the Elomi swimwear next week. Available in sizes XL-5XL (16-24).
SHOP IT: Elomi Night Fever Split Front Tankini Top, $134.95 from Avokado
This is such a cute tankini, I feel like the top would look awesome paired with board shorts as super casual daywear so you could literally wear this in the ocean and to the shop to get an iceblock (let’s be honest, it’s the only way to survive a Kiwi summer right?). Available in US sizes 10-24 (NZ 14-28).
SHOP IT: Tropiculture Strata Handkerchief Tankini, USD $51.10 from Swimsuits For All
One of the things I personally look for in a tankini is that it’s more of a shelf bra style than one with underwire or foam cups. Why? Because those styles are generally sized to fit up to a DD cup and I’m a J cup. The shelf bra style means that my breasts sit properly in the top and give me a better fit. Winning all round! Available in sizes 14-26.
SHOP IT: Santiago Snake Print Tankini, $74.31 from Autograph
If you follow me on Facebook (you totally do right? If not, you can find me here), you would have seen me posting about this tankini in September. It’s really gorgeous in person and longer than a lot of the other tankinis I’ve seen meaning that you get a bit of extra coverage. That pattern though – I’d love to see that on a bikini as well! Available in sizes 18-24.
SHOP IT: Zest Resort Curve Green Floral Waterfall Tankini, $59.99 from Farmers
I like swimsuits with little points of difference – this one has a keyhole front detail plus adjustable and convertible straps so you can wear them crossed over or straight. I love the bold print too! A word of warning – I’ve read a few reviews of this tankini and would recommend that it’s better suited to smaller busted babes. Available in sizes 14-24.
SHOP IT: Linear Floral Tankini, AUD $99.95 from TS14+
I’m not sure if it’s a case of #bigboobproblems but I feel like the thin spaghetti straps don’t always give the best support. This racerback singlet style totally solves that, meaning this tankini is suitable for people who actually want to do a spot of swimming (like, lengths and stuff as opposed to splashing about with your mates). Brilliant. Available in US sizes 8-26 (NZ 12-30).
SHOP IT: Aquabelle Chlorine Resistant Black Racerback Tankini Top, USD $27.30 from Swimsuits For All
Can we talk about how beautiful this design is? It’s so striking, I’d love a tankini like this one. It’s adjustable and convertible shoulder straps and a centre zip detail that can be zipped up or down depending on how much cleavage you want on show. Available in CC sizes XS-XL (14-24).
SHOP IT: Prismatic Tankini, $99.99 from City Chic
Like the Elomi tankini I mentioned earlier, this one is also designed to be worn with one of their swim bras for maximum support. I really like the shape of this tankini as it hugs your body a bit more and the design will enhance your gorgeous curve. I’m adding this to my list of swimsuits to try on! Available in sizes XL-6XL (16-26).
