Today I went along to the opening of The Brickworks at LynnMall, a lovely space in New Lynn that has some great restaurants (including Cleaver & Co., Hansan, Shaky Isles, Goode Brothers and Wagamama) and is conveniently not too far away from my house. I can totally imagine some great nights out with friends over summer, underneath the lights that criss-cross overhead. The Brickworks also has a cinema opening there later this month, so dinner and movie date nights will definitely be happening!
Ray McVinnie (renowned chef and Consulting Food Director at Bite) was there to ring the bell to officially open The Brickworks, and one of the comments he made was that the restaurants all serve “real food”. It’s definitely a far cry from the fast food foodcourts that we usually see at malls, something I’m happy about because it makes it super easy to find gluten free food!
Meeting Ray McVinnie was a bit awkward because I didn’t know I’d be meeting him beforehand and didn’t have any great questions prepared! I wish I could tell you that we chatted about all things foodie and became firm friends but nope… maybe next time!
If you’ve ever met me at an event or out and about (shout out to the people who come up and say hi to me, I love meeting you guys!), you will know that I am extremely awkward in person and very quiet (until you get to know me and then just try to shut me up!).
So in lieu of an exciting interview, here’s my outfit. Nice and simple, perfect for a summer night catching up with friends for some good eats.
Is anyone else a bit awkward when meeting new people?
PS My top is from Harlow who are having a 24 hour flash sale that ends at 11am NZT tomorrow morning – make sure you check it out!
Meagan wears:
Summer Diva Hi Lo Top from Harlow (gifted, L)
Sara Jeggings from EziBuy (26)
Nike Lunarglide 6 in black and coral from Nike (9)
P.S. It’s Fashion Cat Eye Sunglasses from Society+
Tote Bag from The Warehouse
Looks like a great spot! Also, yes, I am super awkward!
Awkward turtles unite! 🐢
Brickworks looks amazing – I’ll have to go and check it out. BTW you also look amazing! I love your outfit. I’m quite awkward meeting new people. It’s funny, for work I’m OK, but out of work I find it a bit of a struggle. Oh well, I’m a work in progress lol.
I’m okay for work too! It’s so weird. And yes, definitely make sure you check it out. I hope we have a brunchclub meet up there!
I always feel awkward meeting new people, but everyone says I come across as very confident. Fake it until you make it I say!
I’m all good in work situations when I’m prepared, but when it’s a “surprise, we want you to pose for a photo and talk to this guy”, nope.
