Over the weekend I started watching Suits on Lightbox, have you seen it? It got me thinking about how easy guys have it when dressing for the office – a good suit is fairly easy to find and will instantly make you look smart! Plus size women don’t have it so easy – if I wanted a suit I would need to have a bespoke one made to account for my body shape and my bust to waist ratio (no one looks smart in an ill fitting suit!). Fortunately I’ve done a bit of scouting on your behalf and come up with some great plus size office wear pieces that will have you looking smart and on top of your game…
Monochrome will always look chic. I love this two in one dress that has a super feminine skirt with a more structured boxy cape top.
I like the softness of this top, and think that it would be perfect to pair with a more structured pants suit (that’s a coordinated set of tailored trousers and a blazer, to anyone outside the USA). Make sure you check out Lane Bryant if you’re after a plus size women’s suit – they have some great options.
This whole ensemble is just stunning! I love a powerful pattern and this pepita check number is certainly bold. I’d keep the rest of my outfit simple, with a collared shirt, tights and stud earrings.
I love the bright paprika colour of these pants! Pair them with a crisp white shirt or a silk tee and a blazer.
A patterned blazer is a great way to liven up your outfit if you want to keep things monochrome but aren’t ready to break out with a full patterned suit.
Let’s talk busty girl problems: most button up shirts don’t work so well for me and unless I want to wear something seriously high necked (hint: I don’t, I hate high-necked tops), there is a good chance that I’m going to be showing some cleavage. A good way to avoid flashing some cleavage is to wear a cowl neck top or dress.
Tweed is classic and always looks great – wear it with a white shirt and brogues for a feminine take on a masculine look.
A crisp white shirt is a must-have addition to every wardrobe – it’s an officewear staple that can be paired with almost any skirt or pair of trousers for a quick easy look.
I’ve been eyeing up this top for a while now – it would be perfect with a high-waisted pencil skirt. I think the soft floaty fabric would be a great contrast to a very structured suit.
A cropped blazer is a versatile addition to your wardrobe – it can be paired with almost everything, from dresses to tailored trousers. You can even wear it with jeans on casual Friday!
What are your top tips for dressing for the office?
