I think that size diversity in fashion is really important – when you’re a size 22 (or bigger), it’s hard to imagine what a piece of clothing is going to look like on you when a brand is showing a size 16 dress on a size 12 model. That’s one of the reasons I started blogging – because I wanted to see bodies like mine and I wanted to know what clothes would look like on someone like me.
In New Zealand, there isn’t a lot of clothing available when you’re a size 22. There are even less options if you’re over a size 22. New Zealand isn’t alone in that respect – it would seem that a lot of stores overseas exclude anyone over a certain size as well. Marcy from Fearlessly Just Me got in touch with me a few months ago and asked me to be involved in a project she was working on, to create a lookbook to showing people over a size 22 sharing their style. Of course I said yes right away, because being able to share awesome brands that cater for bigger sizes, plus teaming up with some cool bloggers, that’s my jam!
Check out the lookbook below (double click to open it full screen) – you’ll see ShaKera from The Real Sample Size; Amanda from Bella Moxie; Lisa from MustangSallyTwo; Corissa from FatGirlFlow; Marcy from Fearlessly Just Me; Emily from Authentically Emmie; Amanda from Fashion, Love and Martinis; Meshel from The Muffin Queen’s Closet; Rebecca from The Plus Side of Me; Ashley from Simply Curvy; and Amanda from The Koker Chronicles. Make sure you check them out!
We were asked to submit photos that showed our personal style, and I had the chance to work with some awesome brands on this project. A big thanks to all the brands who dressed me for this lookbook – if you’d like more details about the pieces I chose, what size I’m wearing etc, just click on the pictures below and you’ll be taken to a post with more pictures and the lowdown on what I’m wearing.
HOPE & HARVEST
Hope & Harvest is an Australian brand you probably already know – they’ve been a big supporter of my blog right from the beginning. Their clothes range from 12-30 and their style is fun and chic, they’re not afraid to push the boundaries a bit.
CITY CHIC
We only have a few plus size brick and mortar stores in New Zealand, so I’d be surprised if you didn’t know about City Chic already. Their sizes range from 14-24, and they are very trend forward, with weekly releases of clothing so there is always something new.
SIMPLY BE
Simply Be is basically a one stop shop when it comes to clothes, with sizes ranging from US 6-34 (NZ 10-38). Unfortunately they don’t ship to New Zealand, but you can use a freight forwarder like YouShop to get your hands on some of their clothes.
LANE BRYANT
With lingerie, swimwear, activewear and gorgeous clothes for any time of day (including designer ranges), Lane Bryant is a great place to get clothes in sizes US 14-32 (NZ 18-36).
SOCIETY+
I know you’ve all seen my tutu by now right? That’s just a glimpse of what Society+ has to offer! They have clothes in sizes US 14-32 (NZ 18-36) and I love that they use a variety of women to model their clothes – different shapes, different sizes and NO PHOTOSHOP!
