Ruby & Rain September Try On

New Zealand plus size fashion blogger Meagan Kerr wears Camellia Dress by Ruby & Rain

Ruby & Rain is a plus size clothing brand designed and made right here in New Zealand. If you follow me on Instagram you would have heard me talking about them quite a bit (especially after their recent show at New Zealand Fashion Week) and I wear their clothes pretty regularly. For the past few years they have offered their clothes in size XS-XL (14-24), but recently they have been trialing extended sizes on some of their new styles (XXL and XXXL, or 26 and 28). I’m pretty excited about these new size options so of course I want to talk about them as much as possible – I want them to succeed! In the past I’ve always bought the XL (24) but after trying the XXL (26) I definitely prefer the larger size (although I might still get the XL on some pieces from time to time if I want a closer fit!). Because I’m so excited about this extended sizing, I’ve organised with Ruby & Rain to borrow some of their pieces so that I can show you what they look like on someone with a bigger body.

Last month I shared a few items on Instagram, but I think that photos can only show you so much. And so I decided that it’s time to revive my YouTube channel, so I can show you what things look like on video. Hopefully that gives you a bit of a better idea of fit, and answers any questions you might have!

The Camellia dress isn’t available just yet, so consider this your sneak peek! That floral detailing on the neckline, ruffle and inside the pockets is so stunning. This is something that Ruby & Rain do regularly, bringing in little details. It’s kind of their thing, and I love it! It helps me push my style boundaries a little bit while still being in my comfort zone.

New Zealand plus size fashion blogger Meagan Kerr wears Tropical Floral Mayflower Dress by Ruby & Rain in short and long length

There’s about six inches difference between the short and long hemlines on the Mayflower dress. If you’re on the shorter side like me (5’4” or 165cm), this should give you a good idea of how it might fit. If you’re quite a bit taller than me, of course that hemline will be a bit higher on you! Even though I’m short, I prefer the long hemline because I have a massive scar on my leg from the surgery I had a couple of years ago that I like to keep covered. But I do wear shorter dresses from time to time. At the end of the day it’s all about feeling happy and comfortable in what you wear!

The team at Ruby & Rain have given me an affiliate discount code to share with you as well! If you use MEAGANKERR at the checkout, you’ll get 10% off all full price items. I hope you found this try on video useful. If there is a particular style you’d like me to try on, let me know!

    Hi Meagan,
I am so so confused on the sizing charts to what you are going by. You have blew me ways by saying, 2XL=26, 3XL=28.
    For many years I have stuck to being a size 26(4XL) to 28(5XL). Everywhere I go, I fit 26’s or 28’s, 4XL or 5XL.
With the sizing you quoted, that has thrown all that out the window completely. There is no way I can fit into a 2XL or 3XL, with me being a 26-28 size on the label that are on my clothing.
All of The Warehouse clothing I purchase, no way can I fit a that 2XL or 3XL. But I can their size 26(4XL) to 28(5XL)

Hey Fiona, I’m talking about Ruby & Rain’s size charts. Sizing is basically an arbitrary thing, so you can’t compare one brand with another! Here is their size guide: https://rubyandrain.co.nz/pages/size-guide – so if you’re usually a size 22 you’d be an L, or a size 24 would be an XL etc. They also have actual garment measurements on the page for each garment to give you a better idea of fit.
