I want to start out by saying that while I have modelled in the past, I definitely don’t consider myself a model. I know some people get into blogging with the aim of being a model, but to be honest that’s never been my goal, I really am just here to share really awesome clothes! However, the opportunity came up for me to model for an up and coming New Zealand brand Firefly by Rachel Harrison, and because I had spoken to Rachel a lot over her design process and really love her range, I said sure – why the heck not. And that’s the (short) story of how I became a model for a day.
Last weekend, Doug and I drove down to Thames to shoot with Mike Hill, a photographer I’ve admired for a very long time, for Firefly by Rachel Harrison. I can’t show you the photos from the day just yet, but Doug took a few behind the scenes pictures that I can share.
I had an awesome time at the photo shoot, everyone involved was super nice and I think we all had a lot of fun. Our second location was in the Thames Butterfly and Orchid Garden, which was gorgeous but also very hot and humid – it was about 30ºC. I’d love to go back there when I’m not in jeans with my hair and makeup done, so I could explore more!
Our original plan was to drive back after the photo shoot, but I figured a night away would be really nice so I did a bit of research on Airbnb and found us a cute place to stay. It was our first time using Airbnb and it was an absolute breeze plus the little cabin was gorgeous. We got fish and chips and had a quiet night in playing cards (our family is obsessed with Phase 10) and reading followed by an early night. It was so nice and low key, just what we needed after a long day! The next day we went to Waiomu Beach Cafe for brunch before driving home and holy mackerel. The food was amazing and they catered for different dietary requirements really well.
We shot a wee vlog of our trip as well (including a tour of our Airbnb and a sneak peek at the photo shoot) – apologies in advance for my less than stellar singing in the car!
Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed coming along with us on our adventures. Let me know which of the outfits I was modelling was your favourite, and if you’d like me to do film more vlogs when I get up to something interesting! Firefly by Rachel Harrison is coming soon, you can follow updates on their Facebook page.

Hi Megan, I liked the dark top you modelled for Firefly and the green patterned dress, that looked lovely on you. Thank you for sharing and the vlog was really great. I loved seeing a bit of the country. I can’t wait to be able to purchase some Firefly and will follow them on Facebook.
Thanks Barbara! That green patterned dress was so flattering on all of us, I think it’s going to be a best seller!
All super cute. Thanks for letting us know about Firefly. Gorgeous clothes
That stripey dress looks awesome on you – and looks like a fantastic photo shoot too. :0). Arrragggh jealous of your great B & B find. Your blog is great, keep up the good work and the fun times! X
Loved the vlog and cabin looks really cute x
Thanks Kate! The cabin was super cute – only downside was the low ceiling, poor Doug bumped his head a few times!
