Review: Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer

Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer

My skin is far from smooth, so I like to use a primer underneath my foundation to give me that flawless finish. I have a few Dermalogica primers in my makeup kit, but my favourite at the moment is the new Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer.

I’ll be honest – because I work from home and rarely see anyone apart from courier drivers, I don’t wear makeup very often. I prefer to let my skin breathe, and so unless I have a meeting with a client or am shooting something for the blog, I just don’t bother. When I am wearing makeup, I like to go for a more natural look during the day and a full face look in the evening. When I’m going for a full face look, primer is essential!

Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer

As I’ve mentioned before, I have quite dry skin and this primer helps to keep my skin hydrated. It also (as a primer should) helps to smooth out my skin to give me the best possible base for my makeup – I don’t have a lot of fine lines or wrinkles (just a few around my eyes), but I do have quite big pores on my cheeks and forehead and I find that the primer helps to smooth those over so I can get a nice finish to my foundation. My makeup lasts a lot longer with this primer as well – it was a very hot day yesterday and my makeup looked as great when I washed it off as it had seven hours earlier when I put it on, rather than sliding off my face after a couple of hours (one of the perils of humid summers!).

Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer

MY VERDICT
This is definitely a favourite – while I haven’t worn it by itself yet I love the Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer as a base underneath my foundation as it gives me a flawless finish and makes my makeup last longer than usual.

I have to abso-freaking-lutely agree with you on this one. Seriously obsessed with this primer…mainly because I also have really dry skin and it actually does blur and perfect your skin texture and appearance. Wearing it today on it’s own and my skin appears to be pretty good so far 🙂 No makeup at all. Your skin totally looks flawless though… and beautiful 🙂 And I’ll bet it is – so your opening line? PFT! I love your skin!

Haha thanks lady – it’s all an illusion thanks to makeup though. If you’ve watched my Snapchat today (I’m thisismeagank), you’ll see what a meltdown my skin is having!

The Dermalogica primer sounds fantastic. the fact it keeps your skin hydrated, smooth and helps makeup stay on longer sounds like I need to get me some. Thanks for your review 🙂

It’s great Kim, so nice not to have to worry about my makeup sliding off!

Ooh, this one sounds good. Love that it’s hydrating as I’m pretty dry skinned too.

Moisturiser + primer = great combo! By the time I get around to foundation my skin feels great

Hi Meagan – I’m using the Dermalogica Skin Perfect primer at the moment (a gift when I got a subscription to NZ Glory Days magazine) which is awesome but this is on my list to try as its more suited to my skin typel

I quite liked the Skin Perfect Primer but not nearly as much as this one – there are a few subtle differences in what they’re like on my skin, but the one that stands out for me is how well my makeup goes on over the top. Let me know what you think when you get a chance to try it!

I have the opposite problem to you Megan, i.e. I have quite oily skin so when I’ve tried primer in the past it’s just been like another layer of moisturiser. I do like Dermaligoca products though, I bought some eye cream and it seems to have made an improvement. 🙂

Some primers are more suited to oily skin than others, and have a great mattifying effect. I can’t recommend any (because my skin isn’t oily), but check out this post by StyleCaster – it might have something that catches your eye.
