I always find myself getting a wee bit jealous when cool new lines of clothing are released overseas and they are hard (if not impossible) to access in New Zealand. One such line has been the Rebel Wilson x Angels range, which launched in mid-2017, and I’m really excited to share that it’s now not only available in New Zealand but it’s in store – you can actually try it on. This is a BIG deal, and I’m really excited that Zebrano are now stocking this line. I headed in store to check out the range (and try it on, of course), and report back to you on what I think of it.
I think I managed to try on most of the current stock, so let me give you a run down. Because Rebel Wilson x Angels is an American range, it’s in US sizing – if you’re shopping online then make sure you check your measurements against the size guide on the Zebrano website.
The first thing I tried on was this dress, which I’d spied in the window as I walked in. It’s a navy, olive green and blush pink camo print sleeveless high low dress, the fabric is polyester and it’s fully lined. As you can probably guess from the fact that I’m showing you what it looks like on the mannequin, it didn’t fit me. I tried on a 22, but it was too tight across the hips and way too small in the bust (I couldn’t zip it up) – I think I’d want to size up to a 26 in this one, but unfortunately they didn’t have one on hand for me to try.
I had a lot more luck with the other dresses – the Drape Surplice Dress is a stretch jersey and lovely to wear. I tried on a 2X which was a comfortable fit, but I think I’d probably want to size up to a 3X so that it was a bit more drapey and I had a bit more coverage on my bust. I felt really sassy in this dress and I think it was my favourite of everything I tried on from the Rebel Wilson x Angels range.
I tried the Laced Shoulder Tee Dress in a 3X and really liked the fit of that. I’m very partial to a stretchy jersey tshirt dress as they style is very comfortable, and I love the lace up detail on this one.
In the Northern Hemisphere they are heading in to the summer season, so the Bad and Beachy Tee is very much in tune with that. For us down here in New Zealand, heading in to winter, it might seem a little out of place. The fabric is quite thin and probably not all that suitable for this time of year, but if you work or live somewhere that has great heating or you’re planning a trip away to warmer shores this tee will be fab. That said, it’s actually really nice to wear – it’s a soft jersey and sits at just the right length on me (I’m wearing a 3X) – so could also be worth grabbing to wear for when the weather warms up again.
Lace up detailing features quite a bit in this collection (and in fashion in general at the moment), and I’m a fan! This Side Lace Up Knit Skirt is super comfortable with a wide elastic waistband, and the fabric is a thick knit with plenty of stretch. The 2X was a great fit on me and I’m wearing it high waisted.
Denim Jackets have made the biggest resurgence lately (which I’m totally here for!) and the Vintage Denim Jacket is definitely one you should have on your radar. The denim has a lot of stretch, which is great if you have big arms like I do. To show you how much stretch it has I even did it up, which I can almost never do with jackets because #BigBoobProblems! A couple of things to note about this one – it’s collarless and has a raw hem which is kind of cool, I’m wearing a 3X.
The Mixed Media Pocket Tee has a really boxy shape, and to be honest isn’t my favourite fit because I prefer the sleeves just a touch longer and I think that the pocket sits a bit funny because of my big bust. I love that it combines two different fabrics – the main part of the tee is jersey and the shoulder splices and front pocket are satin. I know that adding non-stretch panels to a piece of clothing can sometimes cause problems with fit, but I think in this case the location of the panels mean that it doesn’t adversely affect how the tee fits.
A couple of other pieces that I tried but didn’t fit were the Pleated Back Trench in a 2X (it’s a chiffon dress coat that was beautiful but just a bit tight – I’d size up to a 3X in this one); and the Ryot Slim Tomboy Jeans in a 24 (the denim was really nice and comfortable in the leg with plenty of stretch but I would have needed to size up to a 26 to get them over my bum).
As we all know, in store lighting doesn’t always show the true colour of things – this is definitely true of this gorgeous Suede Trench Coat (you can see the true colour on the mannequin in the window, earlier in this post, it’s kind of a pinky tan called Evening Sand). Definitely give this one a chance though, because the buttery soft feel of it is divine! I know some of you are on the look out for raincoats, this is definitely not one of those – it’s more of a fashion coat to layer over your outfit (but could also be nice on a slightly chilly day like we’ve been having lately). I’m wearing a 3X and found it quite stretchy.
MY VERDICT: I’m a big fan of the Rebel Wilson x Angels range – it’s cute, comfortable and embraces some of the current trends. The colours have been kept simple with lots of black and denim, and a few pops of pink – I know there are more colour and style options available outside New Zealand and hope we see them here in the future. Sizes currently available at Zebrano are US 14-24 and XL-3X – I’m usually a NZ26 and wear a 3X in this range with a preference for the pieces with stretch (in the non-stretch pieces I think I’d wear a US26 but didn’t have a chance to try those on in the bigger sizes). Prices range from $69 – $273 for the pieces currently in stock. I’m really excited that these pieces are now available in New Zealand, and hope we’ll see more of the Rebel Wilson x Angels line at Zebrano in the future.

I’m super excited to have Rebels clothes now available in NZ yay. Its really awesome there are more trendy plus size clothes coming out I always struggle finding youthful clothes in my size. I’m 43 but thats still young right! I would love a bad and beach scoop neck tee and side lace up knot skirt as they looked cool on you and have a fun look about them . 🙂

Wow there are some really cute and also sexy pieces in the range! Every girl needs a little black dress and my hunting has turned up nothing so I would love to win the drape surplice dress – it looks great and would be my fav from what I’ve seen. It was a hard call though as still on the hunt for jeans that meet my fussy requirements (fit my tum and bum but skinny legged) so a pair of jeans would be my alternative choice. I will def have to go and try these on – they’re not badly priced!
