Plus Size Winter Coats

Plus size winter coats

The first day of winter arrived and true to form I was in my coat. I really feel the cold, so having a good coat to keep me warm is really important – I also like a bit of variety (the perfect coat for every occasion, if you will), so at last count I have at least seven winter coats. Plus I might have ordered another one while writing this post. What can I say, I’m your go to gal for plus size winter coats!

THE WARM COAT: These are your woollen (or synthetic) coats. In Auckland it gets cold and very windy so this is the kind of coat I wear most often. I’ve got last season’s Melton Coat from Autograph in grey and I absolutely love it – the big difference between last season and this season is that it is belted, which is a great addition!

THE STATEMENT COAT: If you want a coat that stands out, go for something in a shade other than your usual neutrals – something bold or pastel is a great way to break up an all black outfit. Or ditch the black all together and go all over bold – I love the way Monique from New Zealand inbetweenie blog Dressing Up has styled the Jackie O Coat from Chocolat. You could also go for a coat with detailing – I love the (faux) fur collar on the coat from City Chic, and the best part is that it’s detatchable!

Plus size winter coats // Sara Trench Coat, $149.99 from EziBuy; ASOS CURVE Mac with Waterfall Drape and Roll Back Sleeve, AUD $163.00 from ASOS; ASOS CURVE Skater Mac, AUD $141.00 from ASOS; Trench Coat with PU Piping, AUD $129.99 from Autograph

MACS AND TRENCH COATS: I prefer these on rainy days (yes, we get plenty of rain here in winter) because they’re much easier to dry out than a woollen coat and don’t get that “wet dog” smell that you can get with wool. I’ve got a couple of trench coats but I just had to order that Sara Trench in camel because … well, because I don’t have any in that shade and it’s a great basic to wear with blue denim. Honestly though, do I need a reason?

What kind of coat do you wear in winter?

Oh my goodness, these are all amazing! I especially like the Ezibuy ones and the ASOS trench down the bottom. How good are trench coats with denim though? Thank you for compiling these beautiful coats Meagan!

My coat arrived today and I HAD to wear it with denim. It was only right!

I love winter coats, especially ones with big pockets. I often ditch the bag in favour of a coat with pockets. Some have such timeless chic about them and are a great investment. I still wear a coat I bought when I was 16…and I’m 32 now. It was a bit big for me when I first got it so it fits well now. It’s seen so many winters. It’s probably time to give it up now as it’s a little worn in some places but it’s fun having something in my wardrobe with so much history. I do like the idea of getting a wool coat this winter though. Just gotta figure out what colour.

HECK YES to pockets! They’ve got the added bonus of being able to shove your hands in them as well 😀

Uggghh I am totally lusting over that Asos curve Mac in waterfall and roll back sleeves! It’s so perfect!
I only have a camel oversize coat from Asos last season, or two seasons ago I think. A real leather biker jacket I’m loving for the bad ass look and a steel blue/greyish waterfall Mac with hood. And a few cardigans. I had a gorgeous red collarless coat and a caramel/camel cape belted coat from dreamdiva (they usually do some great outerwear, but it’s a hit and miss) that’s stored in my parents garage interstate.. I still dream about them and hoping they haven’t thrown it out yet haha. Surprisingly I don’t have a black coat! Looks like I need one ASAP!

I’m surprised I don’t have a proper black coat – I only have that one trench which is more suited to summer. I never wear it so I think it’s time for a replacement
