Okay babes, so a few of you have mentioned that you need some ideas of what to wear to work. As we all know I don’t have a job that requires me to dress to corporate standards most of the time (let’s be honest, blogging often takes place when I’m in my pyjamas), but I worked in an office environment for at least ten years so I’ve picked up a few tips along the way…
Dresses are usually my go to for workwear because they’re super easy to style. For work I think it’s best to go for a more conservative look, so I prefer to keep them around knee length and I like a higher neckline because let’s face it, ample cleavage is best left to the weekend (when you’re big busted like I am, even a small amount of cleavage can be really noticeable).
Many people aren’t comfortable showing off their arms (and some dress codes state that you’re not allowed to), so having blazers that fit well are a great way to cover those arms and look polished. They come in a lot of different styles, so make sure you find a style that fits you well and that you feel good in. If I feel good in my outfit I know I come across as more confident!
A well tailored black suit is a really great staple to have in your workwear wardrobe. My key tip is to find a style of trousers and a blazer that fit your body shape, and you’ll look great every time you put it on! Bonus if you can get a suit with a matching skirt and trousers, because that gives you the option to change things up a bit.
The bonus of a black suit is that you can wear pretty much any blouse with it and you are good to go. Depending on the season and your style, you can go for any sleeve length if you’re planning on wearing it with a suit. If your dress code states no bare arms, be mindful of wearing a sleeveless top – having to keep your blazer on all day in summer can suck unless you work somewhere with serious air conditioning.
Your work outfits don’t have to be drab – little details like buttons on a jacket or trousers, a pussy-bow blouse or a pattern can help you inject more of your own style into your outfit. And remember – just because I prefer to wear black, that doesn’t mean you have to! A dark navy suit can look really smart, and there are a lot of other colours to choose from now too – remember that the tailoring is key to making a suit look good.
Do you work in an office? Let me know what you wear to work!
That Manon Baptiste Two Tone Fitted Blazer is amazing! So pretty. I image it would go great with either a neutral colour or something a little more out there like an orange or purple.
Isn’t it fab? I really like Manon Baptiste, some beautifully cut stuff
Thanks, needed this, I just buy locally, farmers. Postie, etc
They have some great options too Lisa – some fab stuff in at Farmers at the moment (a bit less corporate though)
