It’s coming up to my favourite time of year again, and while Halloween falls on a Monday this year there is still ample opportunity to dress up. Whether you’re heading to a Halloween party, going trick or treating or just want to bring a bit of spooky into your day, I’ve got some cool plus size Halloween costumes to inspire you this year.
This raven look reminds me of Angelina Jolie’s costuming in Maleficent. The feathered cape or clips would be the perfect finishing touch to an outfit – think long slinky black dress – simple and glam, perfect if you’re going to a fancier event.
SHOP THE LOOK: Raven Cape | Raven Feathered Shoulder Clips | Mila Strappy Shelf Bra | Black Trumpet Tulle Skirt | Valentina Steel Boned Underbust Corset | Aria Satin Corset | Opera Length Stretch Gloves
I am totally here for characters from fairytales, films and books. They don’t even have to be spooky to be honest, I just really enjoy dressing up! Snow White has been very popular with my friends over the years and is probably the Disney princess I’ve seen as a costume more than any other.
SHOP THE LOOK: Bronwyn Steel Boned Corset | Short Satin Skirt | Ruffled Two Layer Petticoat | Stretch Velvet Long Cape | Short Shaper Skirt with Detachable Garters
This was one of my favourite costumes from Hips & Curves last year and it’s definitely something to do with the red cloak! Red Riding Hood was one of my favourite stories as a child and I think I’ve dressed as Red at least two or three times over the years. I have a thing for cloaks and capes and the like, so Halloween is a great time to bring those out.
SHOP THE LOOK: Ophelia Underbust Leather Corset | Soft Cotton Bell Sleeve Dress | Stretch Velvet Long Cape | Steampunk Fingerless Fishnet Gloves | Leather Straps
You don’t have to dress up like a character either – a spooky addition to your outfit like a Halloween themed skirt is a great way to get into the mood of the season without feeling too costumey.
SHOP THE LOOK: Unique Vintage Orange Pumpkin Skirt | Hell Bunny Halloween Print Skirt
Keeping it subtle is a good way to sneak a bit of seasonal goodness into your outfits, and to be honest I would be super keen to wear any of these skirts all year round (especially the one on the right, which I think I could pull off at Christmas as well, what do you reckon?!)
SHOP THE LOOK: Web & Flow Skirt | Fortune Favors The Cave Skirt | Happy Skull-idays Skirt
I’m going to be honest, these dresses are also ones that you could wear any time! I am definitely coveting the middle one, I reckon that I could definitely pull off a cool Wednesday Addams look in that dress and I know it is something I’d be able to wear over and over regardless of whether it was Halloween or not.
SHOP THE LOOK: Creatures of the Fright Dress | Record Time Dress | Name of the Gamer PacMan Dress
Sometimes it’s all about being subtle. A pair of cat shoes with a black dress is cute and simple (without a lot of effort). Monster sneakers? You can wear those with anything! And if you’re planning a night in watching scary movies then you at least have to wear some Halloween slippers, right?!
SHOP THE LOOK: ASOS LEXA Cat Ballet Flats | ASOS DARMO Monster Halloween Trainers | ASOS LETHAL Halloween Stay Creepy Slippers
“Goth Mermaid” is a pretty good way to sum up my look most of the time! If you fancy yourself as a mermaid but don’t want to be sweet like Ariel, then why not go for something darker? Or better yet, create yourself an amazing Ursula costume – she is a badass and great inspiration for a plus size Halloween costume
SHOP THE LOOK: Starfish Hair Clips | Leather Straps | Tara Underbust Corset | Silver Metallic Trumpet Tulle Skirt | Long Sleeved Tee
Adding a headpiece to an outfit is a super easy way to pass off a regular outfit as a costume. It means you can add your own spin on things with as much or as little effort as you want. If all you want to do it wear a dress and some animal ears then go for it!
SHOP THE LOOK: Pom Pom Ear Headband | Midnight Rose Headband | Lace Crown and Veil Headband
Do you keep it subtle or go all out for Halloween?
What will you be dressing up as this year?

I’m always down for a costume party and dressing up is my jam…if only though
Sounds like you need to THROW a costume party! I ordered my outfit last night, I can’t wait 🙂
I’ve never been much into the dressing up… always too stressed trying to sort the kids for bookweek and loud shirt day before halloween arrives, so I’m a bit over it all by October! I always used to love a good costume party… maybe I just need to host one and give myself a reason to do it!
A costume party sounds like a GREAT way to go! We used to have them all the time in my 20’s (not just Halloween) and they were so much fun
