Every year I get people asking me where they can find really good quality plus size coats. Depending on where you are, it can be cold, windy, or wet… and if you live where I do it can be all three in one day, especially in winter and spring (and if this year is anything to go by, summer and autumn as well)! I’ve done a bit of hunting and found options for all kinds of weather, so snuggle up with a cuppa and take a look.
BRAVE THE RAIN
Plus size raincoats are right up there with the things I get asked about most often, and unfortunately there are not a large amount of waterproof raincoat options out there – a lot of them are only water resistant. This is definitely a gap in the market and a place where I think both local and international retailers could do better (there’s need for waterproof raincoats where I live year round, especially if you’re a parent of a child who plays sport or you like to be able to leave your house without getting saturated). Anyway, enough of the ranting, here are some waterproof and water resistant options.
Golden Times Jacket, AUD $149.95 from Taking Shape and Petite Rain Drops Jacket, $139.95 from Taking Shape
Red Coated Mac With Striped Lined Hood, £39.99 from Yours Clothing and Black Coated Mac With Striped Lined Hood, £39.99 from Yours Clothing
ASOS CURVE Borg Raincoat, AUD $109.00 from ASOS and At All Showers Raincoat, USD $79.00 from ModCloth
Purple Waterproof & Windproof Jacket With Hood, £45.99 from Yours Clothing and Black 3 In 1 Waterproof & Windproof Coat With Detachable Fleece & Faux Fur Trim Hood, £59.99 from Yours Clothing
WRAP UP WARM
If you’re somewhere cold (but not wet), you’ll want a coat that keeps you warm. I’ve had a few great woollen coats over the years and my favourite style is one that comes with a belt so that I can give it a bit more shape and make sure it fits my body well – if clothing is looser that gives more space for cold air to get in!
Steve Madden Winterberry Tart Coat, USD $149.00 from ModCloth (also available in black and leopard print) and ModCloth Belted Plaid Coat with Wide Collar, USD $99.99 from ModCloth
Sara Empire Coat, $99.00 from EziBuy and ASOS CURVE Check Slim Coat with Pocket Detail, AUD $149.00 from ASOS
KEEP IT CLASSIC
A classic trench or a mac is great as both a fashion statement for trans seasonal weather and to keep the wind off when it’s a bit chilly. Again, I recommend a belted one so that you can personalise your fit.
ASOS CURVE Statement Mac with Buckle Detail, AUD $159.00 from ASOS and ASOS CURVE Classic Trench Coat, AUD $109.00 from ASOS
Mystique Trench, $199.99 from City Chic and Sherlock Trench, $199.99 from City Chic
Because plus size coats are one of the harder to find wardrobe items, I’ll make sure I share some more options in the months to come (especially ones for cold weather). If there is a particular style you’re after, then let me know and I’ll be sure to keep an eye out.
What style of coat do you like to wear?
