Plus Size Activewear

One of the things that people ask me about often is plus size activewear. For a long time it’s been difficult to find something stylish to exercise in, but lately there are a number of brands that have been upping their game. So, whether you’re a regular workout queen or heading off to your first yoga class, check out some of the great activewear options I’ve found…

Activewear at EziBuy

I picked up quite a few of my activewear pieces from EziBuy, and they have bought in some great new options for spring. If you have short legs like me, I’d recommend going for the cropped pants. I have the yoga pants in last season’s pattern and as much as I love them they’re just a touch too long for me and I’m going to need to have them taken up.

Activewear at Crossroads

Activewear doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. A pair of yoga pants (full length or cropped), a tank and a hoodie is a great way to start! You can get these things from everyday clothing stores, and you don’t need to have “specialty” gear.

Don’t be afraid to incorporate some colour into your workout wardrobe! I love bright activewear, especially in coral and purple – what are your favourite bright shades to wear while you exercise? I also couldn’t go without mentioning those 17 Sundays shorts – I have a pair and they are super comfortable!

Hey Meagan, ignore the column with the current bra sizes in the chart, they are just guidelines. Enell have a unique measuring system so grab a tape measure and use the bust & rib cage measurements (inches).

I’ve got a lovely lady who is a 42JJ – when we measured her she was a size 8 in the Enell however it wasn’t comfortable so she is getting a custom Enell made – only costs $15-20 more but after that any additional bras are the normal price. Not bad for a custom bra 🙂

Awesome, that’s really good to know as I am a 42J in the style I’m wearing at the moment. Super cool that you can get custom sizes made! Thanks so much for letting us know about Enell! 😀

Most of my workout gear is from Kmart and Cotton on Body – I’m only just plus size on the top so I can fit their XL tops which is good. Finding a good sports bra was hard, most of the ones I found seemed to be more suited to a A-C cups, even if they were in my size (dd-e).

I just noticed that Kmart has started stocking activewear too. I can’t wait to try some of it out.

Yes! They’ve recently redone their activewear which is super exciting! I think I need to do a “part two” of this post 😉

It would be great to include sports bras as this is very challenging – or maybe it’s just me! 😀

You’re not the only one – I’ve literally never worn a sports bra because I can never find one that fits! I’ll try to hunt some down for you Aimee x

Have you tried the Enell Sports Bra? Not very sexy looking (although my sister says she feels like cat women when she wears hers) but they strap the girls in. Enell is based in the US but I loved it so much I now re-sell here in NZ via http://www.sportsbra.co.nz. The new Freya Active is also great as it offers a racer back option while still being very supportive.

I haven’t, but it definitely looks interesting! I had a look at their sizing chart and it looks like the largest size (8) is equivalent to a 52DD – what kind of support does this provide for women (like me!) above a G cup?

Target in Australia has some good stuff. The Taking Shape active wear is definitely my favourite, moisture wicking, light, no chafe. It is also often available in the outlets.

I love running bare especially the tights and the crop but they are expensive. You need something to told everything still!

I wish cropped activewear was more readily available – I’d love to be able to wear 3/4 yoga pants with a cropped top but finding an affordable top seems to be proving difficult, more brands need to nclude these!

Active intent – The Warehouse. Great price, long lasting and looks good. The Warehouse also has long line singlets as part of their core range. Perfect multi use item. Gym, sleep wear and underwear 🙂

Yes! The Warehouse has some great activewear. Their new season stuff is really nice too, lots of great patterns in there (and I had a chat to their activewear buyer and womenswear buyers about how we need more plus size activewear so fingers crossed!) xo

Yes I really love the Active range at The Warehouse although, I did find that outside of their “fitting” range the colours of pants was only black. To be fair though they are a great price so only having them in black is a compromise they’ve had to make I assume. I really like that the Active has a wide variety of options from tight to loose in tops and pants too. It’s great to know there are some other options out there too.

I had a look at their SS14/15 range and there are a lot more colours/patterns available this season, hopefully you will start seeing them in store soon!
