Today marks the winter solstice and I’m all rugged up and ready for cold weather. I’ve found myself wearing a lot of grey lately (along with my usual black), so this scarf feels perfect for breaking things up a bit.
I know that there are a lot of ways I can wear a scarf but there is something classic about having the two ends draping down. I think I change up how I wear my scarf based on what else I’m wearing with it (as well as what I’m going to be doing – wearing your scarf like this is a disaster waiting to happen if you’re painting or eating soup).
The other thing keeping me toasty and warm is my boots. I’ve got warm thick socks on, my leggings are tucked into my boots and those boots are the business! I spied some brown boots that were exactly what I’ve been keeping an eye out for in an instagram post by Number One Shoes about some of their latest men’s shoes, and not to be deterred by something like gender norms I had to go in and try them on. My feet aren’t particularly big, so my biggest concern was that I would not be able to get the boots in a small enough size. As luck would have it, the smallest size (a US men’s 6) was a great fit on me! I had to make the tough decision between black or brown, but in the end it came down to what I would wear most often. I almost justified my way into getting two pairs of boots, one in each colour, but this is the most I’ve ever spent on boots and I couldn’t justify spending that twice over.
Who ever thought that finding the exact pair of boots I was wanting would have happened in the men’s section? If I’d known that was even an option (I just assumed they’d be too big) I would have looked long ago.
Have you found any clothing treasures in a place you didn’t expect to?

Scarves are handy to, for when you spill your food, well ok when I spill my food, they can then be wrapped around the neck and cover the spill that I always do on my boobs 🙂
Hahaha classic! I never think about them for that, but now I will!
My sister had tiny feet. Small enough that she can shop in the kids section!
I’m a bit jealous of that – kids shoes are so cute and way cheaper!
I love, LOVE finding things in unexpected places!
Mens shoes have always been part of my wardrobe cos I’m a big-footed lass. When I was a young thing I travelled to China, and found loads of quite feminine looking mens shoes in my size. It was nice because at the time the mens shoes in this part of the world were in a seriously chunky fashy phase.
I often find awesome things in op shops or online trade sites. And of course, there is the odd gem to be found on Chinese sites (free shipping and low prices… but questionable rag trade practices). My favourite item to buy from China is Hijabs, which are really sizeable and make good scarves and sarongs for a large lady like moi!
Some good tips there, thanks Rachel!
I tend to find all my boots and shoes in the mens section. Having size 11.5/12 women’s it’s hard to find women’s shoes that fit my budget as well as my feet!! 😂
Sounds like you’re on top of things! The men’s section is the place to be!
I’m a size 11 in the foot department so I feel your pain on this one!
