May isn’t just my birthday month (and the month of everything emerald), it’s also New Zealand Music Month!
New Zealand Music Month is all about celebrating our talented musical artists and is a great time to discover new New Zealand music that you may not have heard before as well as getting excited about old favourites. There are a lot of gigs on over the month of May, so venture out into the crisp Autumn air and try to make it to at least one of them!
I thought I’d kick start your Kiwi music appreciation with a few of my favourite tracks by NZ artists. Some are currently on the charts and some are old favourites of mine. Anyone who has ever been on a roadtrip with me will attest to the fact that I like a very wide variety of music (and also that I sing along, very loudly and out of tune. Sorry about that!), so hopefully there is something in here that will appeal to everyone! It was really hard to narrow it down to just ten songs, as we have so many amazingly talented artists to choose from!

What’s your favourite song from a Kiwi artist? Are you planning on attending any of the New Zealand Music Month celebrations?

Top NZ Music track is really a tough choice as we really do have so many great artists! I think mine would either be ‘Gaskrankenstation’ by Headless Chickens, ‘Nice Day For An Earthquake’ by Jakob or ‘You Again’ by Shihad.
Ooh, I think there might be a couple there that I haven’t listened to before! Thanks, I’ll check them out.
