As the weather cools down I’m starting to get really excited about my wardrobe for autumn and winter. I love layering and wearing warm snuggly clothes, so this really is my favourite time of year. I’m not one of those people who has “a summer wardrobe” and “a winter wardrobe” though – I try to have things in my wardrobe that I can wear all year round, and this is when a few staples are important to help carry me through from hot weather to chilly temps.
Merino
I first started wearing merino a few years ago and am most definitely a convert. It’s great for autumn and winter because it’s a thin layer that will keep you warm without adding a lot of bulk to what you’re wearing. I wear my merino a lot as the weather starts to get chilly – as a top by itself, under a tee (very 90’s!), under a button-up shirt, under a sweater, under a sleeveless dress… You can even layer it together – when you wear multiple merino layers, air gets trapped in between each layer to keep you cosy and warm. A merino cardigan or vest over a long sleeved merino top is the perfect way to layer up and keep you warm over winter. Pro tip – make sure the merino is the first layer against your skin, that way it can trap your body heat inside for added warmth!
MY PICK: Yourself Luxe Long-Sleeve V-Neck Merino Top, RRP $79.99 from Farmers
Ponte Pants
Ponte pants are one of my favourite things about winter – they’re warm and cosy, they’re comfortable like leggings (but thicker) and they’re so versatile. Wear them with tees, tunics, sweaters, basically everything. They feel like a warm hug and keep you much warmer than jeans, leggings or trousers.
MY PICK: Wild Child City Fashion Ponte Pants, RRP $89.99 from Farmers
Jacket
Where I live it’s either windy, raining or just plain cold (or if you’re lucky, all three!) in autumn and winter so jackets are an essential part of my wardrobe. Most of the time it doesn’t get cold enough here for me to make the most of my wool jacket so this year I decided I needed something a bit lighter that I’d wear more often. This is perfect because it’s got pockets (y’all know how much I love pockets!), I can wear it done up or undone, and it’s got a hood! When you’re picking out a jacket, make sure it’s a loose enough fit that you’ll be able to wear your warm layers underneath – like that merino top!
MY PICK: Wild Child Urban Spot Jacket, RRP $119.99 from Farmers
I picked these as my top three autumn essentials because they’re really versatile and easy to work in with what I (and most of you) already have in the wardrobe. They can even be worn together!

I love the grey/black combo which is accessorised brilliantly with the red. Just stunning!
The Wild Child collection at the moment is amazing!!!
My Autumn essentials are scarves. I’m bad at layering, so I add a scarf to everything 🙂
I’ve got to agree, scarves are a must have! And great to flip up over your hair if it rains or is super windy 🙂
Wild Child is my fav Farmers brand because they just always fit in all the right places!!!
Aren’t they great? I love Wild Child as well, so many great styles to choose from!
I love that billowy black dress so much!!!! You look amazing in it!
Thanks Margot! It’s the tuck hem dress from Lost and Led Astray – this one is linen but I think you might have seen me wearing it in another fabric before
That Urban Spot Jacket is so pretty Meagan! It’s really feminine and gorgeous! I love it! With a pair of spotty wellies it would be the perfect thing to wear for puddle jumping in Cornwall Park!
Oh my gosh, I haven’t been puddle jumping in years!!! I need to get a pair of spotty wellies, stat!
