House of Boom: The Crown Jewels

New Zealand ethical plus size clothing: The Crown Jewels collection by House of Boom

New Zealand designed and made brand House of Boom has just launched their third season collection, and this jewel toned range is aptly named The Crown Jewels. Available in sizes 16-30, everything is cotton or linen, and as per House of Boom requirements everything has pockets!

You probably already know that I’m a massive fan of House of Boom. Ethically made clothing, made in New Zealand, a business owned by a fellow fat babe … what’s not to love? While I am usually known for my love of black, House of Boom is a massive explosion of colour. I think it’s incredibly important that we have options when it comes to style. While I mostly reach for dark colours, I know that doesn’t represent what everyone likes.

There are a few House of Boom fave styles that are back for another season, like a-line skirt TIARE, the CORNELIA pinafore 1.5 (which has had a few adjustments since season 2) and the KINI sack dress. This time they’re available in some fabulous new colours and prints – one of my faves is the orchid print CORNELIA pinafore, because how can I resist that plant print?

One of the things I love about House of Boom is the diversity of the models they use in their photos. They’ve got a range of sizes, heights, body shapes, ages, ethnicities …and I think that’s awesome. We desperately need more diversity when it comes to fashion, and House of Boom has been all about that life right from the beginning.

One of the new styles this season is the ANJI robe, which is based on the traditional Japanese yukata that designer Joanna McLeod often wore growing up in Japan. It comes in four different colourways – aquamarine, sodalite, jadeite and chambray kyanite. I’m particularly excited about this piece, because finding a decent robe as a fat woman is an absolute mission!

As soon as I saw the robes were available, I snapped one up. I went for the chambray kyanite, which is a dark blue stripe, in a size 4. It’s a decent length and has a tie on the inside to make sure it stays closed. I can’t be the only one who has had a robe mishap and accidentally flashed someone, right? The sleeves are super roomy and yes of course it has pockets big enough to fit your phone in! I don’t have any photos of it on me yet, but you can expect to see those in the future. I wanted to get this post up before all the goodness sells out! With limited edition pieces and sizes that sell out quickly, House of Boom is one of those brands you can’t sleep on.

Also new for season three is the KRIS dress, a short raglan-sleeve dress in cotton knit. One of those basic styles that becomes a wardrobe staple because you can style it with so many things. It comes in tanzanite (the blue) and peridot (the green). Well it did – that peridot has flown out the door and has already sold out! Told ya you had to be quick around here!

Tell me your faves, what are you loving?
Any pieces that you’re eyeing up?
