Hats to keep you warm as the weather cools down

It’s definitely starting to get a bit chillier now, the perfect time to invest in a snazzy hat to keep that precious brain of yours warm and functioning (no one likes brain freeze!). Hats are a great way of changing up your outfit without spending loads of cash.

nzgirl asked me to compile a list of my top ten hats for cooler weather, so here they are!

I find it really hard to find a hat that I think suits me, so I tend to go with styles I already know and love.  The fedora is my go to hat, and I’m loving this navy woolen fedora from Redcurrent (also available in burgundy).

This ladylike burgandy knit is bound to keep you warm and stylish.  I wonder if it would suit me?

With The Great Gatsby due to be released in May, 1920’s fashion is back in.  Keep your head warm in style with a sweet grey cloche from Redcurrent (also available in black).

How cute is this vintage knit beret from JayJays? Perfect for taming your hair in the Winter wind. Also available in black, black fleck, blue fleck, natural, rose, shamrock, winter pink and winter white.

Pagan Marie has some great slouch beanies (also available in grey, beige, brown and black) that would be perfect paired with skinny jeans and a snuggly jumper for winter.

Whether you’re in to skiiing, snowboarding, or sipping hot chocolates, this wool blend beanie from The North Face will keep you warm.  They’ve included an interior micro-fleece earband to keep your precious ears cosy, while the rest of the hat is still breathable (also available in Roxbury Pink and Weimaraner Brown).

I couldn’t leave out this adorable Miss Pom Pom Bobble Beret from ASOS! It comes in two colour combos, and they’re both so sweet it’s hard to choose – green with pink bobb or grey with pink bobb?

One of the few wintery hats that suit me are ledge beanies – I know, because my boyfriend has one and I keep trying to swipe it! When I hunted online for these, they seemed pretty elusive. Luckily, I have found that Burton makes them.  Unluckily, they are totally out of stock in their online store (whomp whomp).  Fingers crossed they get them back again ASAP – if you know anyone else who does ledge beanies like this, PLEASE let me know!!! *EDIT – Underground Skate have some in stock!*

When I mentioned to a friend that I was writing a piece on Autumn/Winter hats, she insisted that I include one with a pom pom.  Harking back to old school days, here is a Trapper Beanie complete with pom pom and ear flaps (also available in black, emerald and milk).

For a bit of fun, why not pop on this faux fur bunny ear hat from ASOS?  It looks super warm and it has ear flaps.  Winner!

Will you be donning a warm hat this Autumn/Winter? Which is your favourite?

All prices listed are in New Zealand dollars unless stated otherwise, and are subject to change.

Great list. Love how affordable they are.

What’s your view on people wearing hats indoors?

      Thanks!

I think there are certain times (e.g Melbourne Cup Day or similar posh event) when wearing a hat inside is okay, but otherwise my mother raised me to remove your hat when you come inside.

It really does depend on the hat and the situation though. If you come to hang out at my house in a beanie and it’s cold, leave it on. If you’re coming over to watch a movie and you’re wearing a Carmen Miranda headpiece … that might be a bit much!

lol. Good point. I work in an office and because if this, I hardly ever wear hats. If I worked outdoors I guess, I could incorporate more hats into my wardrobe.

You could wear a hat to and from work (and on your lunch break)? Just beware of hats that cause static – hat hair isn’t so great!

Nah, I don’t wanna have to do my hair when I get to work. Booooo on hat hair.

Thanks Pearl! I like it too, might have to pop in to my local JayJays and try one on to see how it looks!
