I’ve been on the hunt for gorgeous dark floral pieces all winter while my friends in the Northern Hemisphere have been rocking them throughout their summer. I’m not usually a floral gal but sometimes I’ll make an exception if I really love the print, and I really love the look of florals on black (I’m sure you’re all very surprised by that haha).
I spotted the long sleeve version of this dress when I was trawling the new releases at Lady Voluptuous a little while ago and I was so sad to find out that they’d sold out in my size (I swear, you blink and they’re gone!). Luckily for me, the team at Two Lippy Ladies managed to get their hands on a short sleeved version, which is even better because we are in the last few days of spring and it’s already feeling a lot like summer.
I’ve got another Lady Volup Lyra dress and this fabric feels a little bit heavier (I guess because it was intended for the winter styles), but I have to say that I love it anyway and I think it’ll still be fine for summer.
I don’t usually gravitate towards florals, but the soft vintage rose design contrasted so beautifully with the black that I thought it would make a great addition to my wardrobe and I was right. Goes to show that exceptions can always be made when it comes to style!
I decided to contrast the soft feminine florals of my dress with this gorgeous (vegan) leather crossbody bag with the stud detail on the strap. It gives it a bit more edge and makes the look even more my style. I picked up this bag from a good friend of mine who has just started her own line called Velvet Heartbeat and I am very proud to be her first customer! Supporting your friends is incredibly important and I love what she stands for – Velvet Heartbeat is vegan, New Zealand made and eco-conscious (you can find out more about that here). Needless to say I am thrashing this bag at the moment!
Whenever I wear florals in spring I can’t help but think of that line from The Devil Wears Prada, “Florals? For spring? Ground-breaking.” It might not be an entirely new concept, but I’m loving it nonetheless.

Looks great. Really suits you. Do you have to wear a petticoat underneath – is it see through/too thin otherwise? I bought the royal blue Lyra and it is really flimsy but I note you said this one is heavier?
I don’t wear a petticoat under either of mine! The black one is so light it feels like it might be see through, but it’s not
