When 17 Sundays released their grid print dress and matching tee, I shared them on my Facebook page and y’all went bananas over them! Then I did a giveaway of them both and woah. Everyone was so excited! Except one person – she was determined that this dress was a sack and probably the worst thing to happen to plus size fashion ever because it was loose fitting rather than curve hugging. Well guess what? I don’t agree (and neither do the 300+ people who entered to win one).
There’s no rule that says that I have to show off my body. When a smaller woman wears something slouchy it’s cute, but as fat women we are told we look like slobs if we do. Fuck that noise – if I want to wear slouchy comfortable things I will! Because it’s my body and that means I get to dress it however I want – sometimes that means bodycon dresses and sometimes I’m all about the slouch.
I spent a long time covering up my body in drapey fabric that hid my “problem areas” and “skimmed my tummy” and all that bullshit we are told we should do as women. Then I rebelled and only wore things that showed off my shape, things that enhanced my waist and the curve of my body. Now I just want to wear clothes I like and things I feel comfortable in – and that encompasses a wide variety of silhouettes.
So to the person who hated this dress so much that she felt the need to leave abusive comments on my Facebook page, all I have to say is I don’t care. If you don’t like something, don’t wear it – simple as that. Personally, I’m loving it!
How do you feel about slouchy clothes?
Loving them or not your style?
Meagan wears:
Grid Print Dress from 17 Sundays (gifted, XL)
Basics Fosani Shoes from The Warehouse (8)
FIT NOTES: If you’re tall, you might want to size up in the dress because it’s got a split up the back.

Personally, I LOVE the dress! Everyone has the right to wear whatever they want. This dress may be slouchy, but I also think it looks like it would be perfect for Aussie summers when you really don’t want anything touching you! π
I know the exact kind of summers you mean – we get those here too! I’m def gonna be wearing my dress when it’s hot and sticky!
YES! Love this post! Yay for comfort and snuggly clothes.
Comfort is where it’s at!
First of all..hope you and your Man have a love fest anniversary ππππand Second-to the Woman who went cray cray about the dress-WHAaaaTtt???……Seriously!!! She can’t have read the memo…Sisters are supposed to have your back;not slam you or throw ya toys out of the playpen.Wow…Meagan thank you for your blog.Until I discovered you I was feeling ashamed of what I’d become. You have the ability to empower. All credit to you sisterππππππππππππππππππππ
Our anniversary was awesome, thanks Janne! I’m so glad to hear that my blog leaves you feeling empowered β€οΈ
Slouchy? Nah it looks comfy AF.
I can totally see this with black tights and boots when it gets cooler too.
Love the dress! Mine is arriving today with my mum from aussie & I can not wait!! Love your work π
It’s not even very slouchy – it’s shapely without being fitting. I like it a lot. It’s a perfect spring dress that can be dressed up or down. Love the colour – a lighter shade of black hehe x
I think it depends on what size you’re wearing – I’ve seen it on a couple of people who have sized up and it’s way more slouchy on them than it is on me.
Looks gorgeous and comfy, nice and breezy for the summer! I just saw some cool knickers for under dresses – check out Undersummers by CarrieRae. I haven’t purchased any yet but they look awesome
Oooh I love that they have so many colour options! I have a bunch of similar ones in black, white and beige, but they don’t work with every outfit
I think you look fabulous an I’m definitely putting this dress on my wish list
Thanks Mel! Hurray, grid print for everyone!
I adore this dress. There are absolutely no rules, I love to wear a bit of every style and for a relaxed weekend, this dress is PERFECTO. And you look stunning Meaghan!
Yes! Such a good dress for the weekend! Thanks Rachel x
