If you follow me on Instagram, then you’ll know that last night was date night. We didn’t really celebrate on Valentine’s Day because we were both working, so we decided that dinner and a movie was in order this week.
We ate at Circus Circus, one of my favourite local cafes (this is not the first time I’ve been there this week!). It’s circus themed, the food is amazing and the staff are extremely efficient. Actually now that I think of it, we went there last Valentine’s Day. See, it really is a fave!
I’m pretty sure that I already have a LOT of photos with this lion, but I had to take one more. There are two lions that guard the entrances to Circus Circus, and they regularly receive pats from me on the way past. Would I love one for my front door? Yes please! Who wouldn’t love this majestic king of the beasts guarding their home?!
After dinner we went to the cinema to see The Theory of Everything, as I won tickets from One Take Kate last week. It’s the story of renowned physicist Stephen Hawking and his wife Jane, and I’m gonna be honest – I cried my eyes out (and I know I wasn’t the only one). It was an amazing film and really not hard to see why it’s been nominated for so many awards. Eddie Redmayne (who I loved in Les Misérables) was absolutely perfect in his role as Stephen Hawking, and it’s the best film I’ve seen in a long time. Check out the trailer:
We had a really great night. As busy people, it’s important that we take time away from our phones and work to spend time together – I know that I’m really bad at that, so I’m consciously trying to make time for monthly date nights. We’ve had two date nights in the last week, so I think we’re doing pretty well!
What do you do on your date nights? Have you seen The Theory of Everything?

loooove the lions – they’d be great as door guards and i’m glad you had a lovely day/night <3
Yes! Door guard lions are exactly what I want them for. And maybe photo props…
Very cute! I love the pop of blue.
We don’t go on dates that often, but I’m taking my man out to dinner tomorrow at a local gastropub/steakhouse and I can’t wait (low key is the way to go) <3
Circus sounds AMAZING. I'm not too sure if we'll have the time to go there when we're in Auckland next, but I had a look at the menu, and there are a few gf options 😀
cute this is the kind of thing we do too, fav cafe for noms and a movie, keeping it casual! Couple selfie looking good!
