I’m pretty picky when it comes to flowers – I know what I like (peonies, hydrangeas, vintage roses and amaryllis, for the record) and what I don’t (carnations, most chrysanthemums and most lilies). The same goes for florals in fashion – I’m either all in or all out and I think I might have … maybe four? floral pieces in my wardrobe (two of them are made from the same fabric). One of those select few pieces is this kimono from Kiwi designers DMONIC INTENT.
There is a lot of monochrome action going on in this floral print, with a few bright points of pink, purple and blue and a more subtle yellow, which combines my love of things that are simple and unfussy with the super fabulous part of me that wishes it could wear tiaras and tulle on the regular.
Despite being a straight size label, DMONIC INTENT has made this as a one size fits all garment – something I’m usually skeptical of (especially with straight sizes, where “one size” might fit on one thigh), but this not only fits me but has room to spare.
I decided to wear a wide belt (compared to the skinny one I’m wearing here) because I think it really helps to define my shape. I think some things look great on me when they’re slouchy and baggy, but this kaftan has quite a lot of fabric so I prefer being able to pull it in a bit.
There’s something I really like about florals with a dark base in the cooler months – not least because they give me a great opportunity to pair them with my favourite neutral shade. This kaftan really is a statement piece so thick leggings and black canvas flats were an easy choice. I couldn’t resist adding an extra pop of colour with my bright socks though!
What’s your favourite flower (to wear or receive)?
Meagan wears:
DMONIC INTENT kaftan from NAKED Empire – The Style Syndicate (OS, gifted)
Wild Child City Essential Full Length Leggings from Farmers (4XL)
Xcesri Belt from Farmers
Rio Women’s Active Trainer Socks, 7 Pack from The Warehouse (size 2-8)
Jade Plimsoles from Rubi Shoes (39)
The belt looks fab with the dress. I’m totally a peonie kinda gal too
That is such a fabulous outfit – you are rocking it
I’m not really a flowery/floral person but I love this!
