New Zealand plus size fashion blogger Meagan Kerr wears Ruby & Rain Rose Dress and City Chic Embrace Jacket

Kia ora, I’m Meagan! You can read more about me here. I started this blog in 2012 when I was a 28 year old design and visual art student, as a creative outlet where I could talk about fashion and beauty. In March 2013, I sat down and tried to figure out what made me different from the hundreds of other fashion and beauty bloggers in New Zealand. You know what makes me different? My experience as a fat woman.

I started blogging specifically about plus size fashion for two main reasons – the first is that obviously I am a plus size woman myself, and as someone who has been fat all of my adult life I understand how difficult it is to find nice clothes for plus sizes in New Zealand that are reasonably priced. The second is that there were no existing dedicated independent plus size fashion media outlets in New Zealand. No magazines, no blogs, nothing. And so, I decided to step in to that gap.

On my blog you’ll find lots of fashion and style related posts, but also things I’ve experienced as a plus size woman – talking about everything from body image to skincare to travel. I’ve also got you covered with tips on where to shop, as well as discount codes and where to find the best plus size sales.

I’d love for you to come on a journey with me! If there is something you want to know, please leave me a comment on the relevant post or send me a message via my contact page. If you’re looking for something in particular and can’t find it on here, let me know! Chances are, it will be something that I can write about for you in a future post.

Aussie Curves: Vulnerable

AUSSIE CURVES headerAt the beginning of this year, I challenged myself to develop a healthy relationship with my body and become more comfortable in front of the camera. All year I’ve been working on this, and the Aussie Curves challenges have gone a long way towards pushing me out of my comfort zone and in front of my camera. So far this year I have shot (and exhibited) a self portrait series that included nude photos of me* and pictures of me in a bathing suit, as well as countless outfit posts.

This week’s Aussie Curves theme was vulnerable, and here I am: without make-up, and without clothes.

I dropped by the DMONIC INTENT Pop Up Store while they were setting up … so many things that I want! I love that the garments are arranged by colour – I’m a grey and navy gal!

Heads up! My good friends at DMONIC INTENT have a pop up store running from today (Tuesday 23rd April) at in the Cross Street Arcade (214 Karangahape Road)! They’re selling a whole bunch of their amazing garments, hats and jewellery, which you may have seen at New Zealand Fashion Week over the last couple of years, and some art that you’ve won’t have seen (but should consider buying because it’s awesome!). Why hello there, lovely to meet you! Tell me about yourself…

Over the past few weeks, you’ve read about some of the wonderful bloggers I know, and now I thought that it might be time for me to learn a little about you!

Hi, I'm Meagan! Nice to meet you.

Hi, I’m Meagan! Nice to meet you.

If you would like to play along just copy and paste the questions into the comments section and replace my answers with yours. I can’t wait to meet you!

1. How old are you?
28.
2. Where are you from?
Auckland, New Zealand.
3. What do you do for a living?
I’m a full-time Design and Visual Arts student. I’m also a blogger, a photographer, a teaching assistant, and a library assistant – a bit of a Girl Friday!
4. If you could have any super power, what would it be?
Telekinesis, so I could visit my friends and family all over the world.
5. What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?
I own one pair of trousers from TS 14+ that are an amazing stretch knit fabric and are so comfortable! Their only downside is that they’re handwash only – I don’t have the attention span for that, so I don’t get to wear them as often as I’d like.
6. Where do you want to travel to?
Everywhere! I want to experience France, Scotland, Italy, Japan, Czech Republic, Antarctica and more, as well as revisiting places like Indonesia and New Caledonia.

Everyone who answers my questions will go in the draw to win a gift pack of random beauty treats, because it’s United Nations International Day of Happiness, and giving  you treats makes me happy!

30 x 30 (Some resolutions for the New Year)

I’ve recently been made aware that 30 isn’t that far away for me – 18 months, in fact.  In light of this, and the impending new year, I thought that this is a great time to sit down and think about what I’d like from my future. Time for some goal setting.

I made a New Years Resolution two years ago to quit smoking, and am proud to say that as of 1st January 2013, I will have been smokefree for TWO WHOLE YEARS! That’s a pretty big deal, and not really something I thought I could achieve. So, now that I know that I have fierce determination and am extremely stubborn, it’s time to set myself some more goals.

I was inspired by Hannah at Dressed In Pixie Dust to create my own version of her 25 by 25 list (obviously doing a 30 by 30 because I have a couple of years on her …). I thought I’d share a few of them with you, both to encourage you to try something similar and because writing this down and sharing it makes me feel accountable! View Post
