Brunch Date

Due to our completely conflicting work schedules, my boyfriend and I only share one day off every two weeks – he works nights on a rotating schedule and I work days as well as a couple of evenings. That means that every second Sunday is reserved for hanging out with my dude! Today we kicked off date day by hitting one of our favourite brunch spots – The Garden Shed in Mount Eden.

Gluten free eggs benedict with bacon and salmon and maple iced coffee at The Garden Shed, Mt Eden

I pretty much always get the same thing every time we go to The Garden Shed for brunch – eggs benedict with kale on potato rosti. The hollandaise is perfect with a tart lemon bite that cuts through the richness of the egg, and everything in the dish is extremely flavourful (not to mention gluten free). I can never decide between bacon and salmon, so I have both – no food FOMO here! Plus, it keeps me full until dinner time. A maple iced coffee (made with almond milk instead of dairy) is my drink of choice no matter what time of day it is. If it sounds like I’m a bit of a fangirl of the food here – I am! There is a reason we keep going back there time and time again. Plus, I don’t really talk about food on my blog very often, so you know that when I do it must be seriously amazing!

Going out for brunch meant a great excuse to wear this dress. Not that I need an excuse – I’ve worn it twice this week already! It’s super soft and comfortable, it’s loose and cool to wear even though it’s really hot and humid, and when I swish it about it makes me feel like Ursula the Sea Witch from The Little Mermaid. Yes, that absolutely is an important consideration.

The dress came with four bands attached that you can use to tie the dress in different shapes (meaning that this is a really versatile outfit and can be worn any number of ways), but I realised that I actually prefer it hanging loosely so I cut those off. The fabric is heavy enough that the dress fits perfectly over my bust and then drops in a way that it skims my curves, so I’m pretty sure that this is a style that would work for most body shapes. I’m even thinking that I could wear it belted if I wanted to emphasise my waist a bit more.

Now I’m off to hang out with my boyfriend and make the most of our time off together – pretty sure that a few video games might be on the cards for later!

How are you spending your Sunday?
Let me know your favourite date ideas!

First up, that food looks soooo good! It’s 2:30am here and I now have this craving for that exact meal. Alas, probably be expensive to hop on a plane to get it! Secondly, OMG THAT DRESS, I love how voluminousness and swishy it looks!

Love this dress on you!! I’ve never been to The Garden Shed, but one of my favourite places to go for brunch in Auckland is Zarbo in Newmarket. We used to go there after playing badminton and the eggs benedict was heavenly. Love it so much! oxoxo

Oh man, one of my friends used to live in an apartment behind Zarbo and we went there on the regular – so good!!!
