My beloved baby brother (who is 28 years old and well over six foot, so clearly not a baby anymore) got married at the beginning of March, toes nestled in the sand of Matai Bay in Northland. It was a gorgeously sunny day, with the sun streaming down, and I’m so glad I had decided to wear a cool flowing maxi dress.
Despite being in a sheltered bay, it was quite windy on the day of the wedding – making me very glad for my long dress that not only didn’t fly up in the wind (something I did notice happened to a few other guests with shorter hemlines and fuller skirts) but protected my legs from the sand. I was kept nice and cool, although I did make sure to seek shade under the beautiful pohutukawa trees.
I picked up my dress from Autograph purely on a whim – I had gone in to look at something completely different and found this gem sitting in the sale rack, marked down from $90 to $20 – bargain!
I’m not going to share any photos of the ceremony, or of anyone else at the wedding, because I think it’s important to draw a line with blogging and not share other people’s moments. I’ll just give you this little tease – the beautiful bower that the boys made for my brother and my darling sister in law to exchange vows under.
Doug and I were pretty excited. Obviously this is before I got super emotional and had to break out the tissues (my clutch was pretty much full of tissues – I cry at the drop of a hat!).
Because the wedding was on the beach, most people took off their shoes as soon as they got down to the sand. The reception was held at a vineyard, so after the ceremony we all brushed the sand off and put on our dancing shoes. It was a magical day, and I love that they decided to get married on a beach was special to them.
Where would you (or did you) get married?

It’s SO comfy. I bought it a little while ago and have been dying to wear it but wanted to save it especially for the wedding. Now I’m going to wear it lots to make the most of it before the nice weather disappears! And exciting – can’t wait to check out your post Natalie!
