As I’m sure you all know by know, autumn is my favourite season for fashion – lots of layering, a darkening colour palette, snuggly knits and any excuse for getting cosy with a big scarf. I’m loving denim, merino, checks, stripes… here are a few of my style picks for autumn.
The city I live in is a “four seasons in one day” kind of place. In autumn (and winter) sometimes it’s sunny but cold, sometimes it’s windy, it often rains, and one time it even snowed for a couple of minutes. The changeable weather has meant that I’ve amassed quite a collection of jackets! I’ve got a couple of woolen coats, but wool doesn’t do so well in the rain so I usually save them for visits home or to Doug’s family. My parka probably gets the most wear because it’s warm and helps to keep me dry.

One of the things I like about winter is being able to snuggle up in something cosy. Soft knits and oversized layers are perfect layered with merino underneath to keep me nice and toasty.

I’ve been preaching the gospel of merino for some time now, because it’s perfect for layering and helps to keep my toasty and warm. Bonus points if you layer two different merino garments because air gets trapped in between each layer, meaning you’ll be even warmer. Epic win!

I always wear my dresses with stockings in autumn and winter, and one of the key things for me when choosing a dress in the cooler months (apart from fit and fabric) is how big the skirt is. I prefer a closer fit because I’ve learned the hard way that if I’m wearing a loose fitting circle skirt, then it will inevitably get blown up!
MY PICKS: BASIC Knot Front Jersey Dress, AUD $79.95 from 17 Sundays | Wild Child Urban Check Shirtdress, $79.99 from Farmers | ASOS CURVE Bodycon Dress with Contrast Collar, AUD $64.00 from ASOS | Super-Chic Hooded Dress, AUD $159.00 from Hope & Harvest
So far this autumn I’ve been mostly wearing trousers because it’s gone from hot and summery to cool and breezy very quickly. My joggers have been getting a thorough thrashing, as have my ponte pants, because they’re so easy to style. I’ve been spending a lot of time snuggled up at home, and I’m thinking palazzo pants would be the perfect cosy trousers for around home.
MY PICKS: Warpaint Boyfriend Joggers, AUD $139.95 from 17 Sundays | Wild Child City Fashion Ponte Pant, $89.99 from Farmers | Palazzo Pants, USD $49.90 from SWAK Designs
I’ve also been wearing leggings a lot lately, and nothing goes better with ponte pants or leggings that a loose top (bonus points if you layer your merino underneath). Whether it’s a button up or hi-lo top, it’s easy to style and go! I like to add a scarf to mine too.
MY PICKS: ASOS CURVE Denim Boyfriend Shirt in Light Blue Wash, AUD $53.00 from ASOS | Diva Oversized Hi-Lo Top, AUD $139.00 from Harlow | Wild Child City Rolled Sleeve Peached Gold Shirt, $69.99 from Farmers
