I spent my summer making the most of the amazing weather – I’ve been swimming, I’ve been out in the sun, I’ve worn shorts and jandals almost every day … and as a result I’m in need of a little bit of head to toe TLC. Over summer I tend to lean towards a really basic beauty routine but autumn is the time that I replenish my skin and my hair after a lot of sea, sun and sand.
Hair
- Refresh colour
- Trim hair
- Use hair masks to replenish moisture
I’ve learned that colouring my hair in summer is a bit of a waste of time because it fades really fast, so at the beginning of autumn I refresh my colour. I’m on a tight budget at the moment so heading to the salon for a fresh colour is off the cards. Instead, I’ve used a Juuce Love Conditioning Colour Treatment – a treatment that deposits colour to give my hair a little bit of a refresh, which I’d usually use in between doing an all over dye job (I use the copper shade). I’ve also visited my hairdresser for a trim, so the ends of my hair are nice and healthy. I know that my hair gets really dry over summer so I’ve been using O&M’s Seven Day Miracle moisture mask every week or two to help combat that (and it works – my hair feels so soft and smooth!). I also tried Lush’s Jasmine & Henna Fluff-Eaze treatment but because my hair is long and thick, I ended up having to use half the pot to do one treatment – not a very cost effective idea.
Skin
- Exfoliate regularly
- Use hydrating products
For my skin it’s all about getting as much moisture in there as I can – I’ve been using some products from NZ RAW in the evenings that my skin has just been drinking up. I’ve been using the Tea Tree Beauty Balm to wash the day off my skin, followed by the Perfecting Spritz toner and the Lavender After Dark Oil which helps to stimulate cell regeneration while I’m sleeping. I’ve been doing my face masks every week as per usual and have been switching between the Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue Masque and the Lush Cup o’ Coffee Exfoliating Mask (because I like to mix things up!).
Body
- Rehydrate skin
- Extend your summer glow with fake tan
Moisturiser is the most obvious one, right? I’m loving The Body Shop’s British Rose Instant Glow Body Butter which smells like roses and has a slight shimmer to it (both very subtle). I’ve also extended my summer tan with the Instant Tanning Mousse from Tan Babe – it’s hands down the easiest fake tan I’ve ever used and the blending mitt makes it super quick to apply evenly (I’ve never had any streaks). Pro tip – use an old kabuki brush to blend the tan into your hands and feet! I also make sure I’m drinking enough water as the weather cools down, to make sure I’m hydrated inside and out.

The body shop rose sounds divine.
It’s so lovely – they have a great range based around that scent!
