At the beginning of this year, I challenged myself to develop a healthy relationship with my body and become more comfortable in front of the camera. All year I’ve been working on this, and the Aussie Curves challenges have gone a long way towards pushing me out of my comfort zone and in front of my camera. So far this year I have shot (and exhibited) a self portrait series that included nude photos of me* and pictures of me in a bathing suit, as well as countless outfit posts.
This week’s Aussie Curves theme was vulnerable, and here I am: without make-up, and without clothes.
Here is look inside the space where I feel the most vulnerable – my bedroom. This is the place where I let down my guard, where I retreat on days that I feel sad, where I recharge myself when the world outside seems to be too much for me to handle. No one other than my boyfriend is allowed in to my sanctuary.
On a typical weekend day, I can be found curled up on my bed studying (only for another few weeks though, and then maybe you’ll find me reading for leisure!). Clothing is optional, as I think it’s really important to spend time alone with your body – touch it, love it, be comfortable in your own skin.
I’m now feeling pretty darn comfortable in my own body. Sure, I have days when I doubt myself. When I do, I look at the beautiful inspirational body positive women that I surround myself with; I think about Tess Munster and Honor Curves and all of the Aussie Curves ladies and I remind myself of all the wonderful things my body does for me.
We are all vulnerable at some time or another. Crappy things will happen at some point, that’s just how life is. Hopefully the great moments outweigh the not so great ones. I’ve survived some pretty awful things in my life, I know how it is. If there is one piece of advice I could share with anyone going through a tough time right now, it would be this:

*Sorry, but that won’t be on the internet any time soon – I get enough revolting messages from skeezy internet guys as it is. Just know that it happened and it was awesome.

I have just discovered your blog today Meagan. You are so fabulous. I am trawling through your archives right now 🙂 This is an amazing post. I have that bra also! In the bright blue and pale pink.
Thanks Steph, and welcome! x
Oh my goodness, I loved this post so much. Your story about coming to love yourself is so honest. Love following all the Aussie Curves girls as they share their stories.
Thanks Alex! x
Gorgeous photos Megan
Thanks! xM
Great post! I agree, that looking and touching and feeling your body is the best way to learn to love it. I did the same thing on my path to body love. Love the colour of that bra!
you are a gorgeous person Meagan! It is really nice seeing someone confident in thier body and who they are.
Thanks Ezmae! It’s been a long hard journey to self love, but I’m glad I made it! x
Great post Meagan, I love how your confidence had grown so much.
Also, gorgeous bra!
Thanks Katie! x
I love this post! You are amazing and gorgeous.
I have that Fat Studies Reader too, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Have you started reading it? What’s your verdict so far? I am slowly getting through all the body positive books I have been buying and reviewing them on my blog. Just finished Fat Sex by Rebecce Jane Weinstein and published a review today. It was okay! But I started reading Game of Thrones around the same time and got really distracted from it, haha!
Thanks lovely! I actually haven’t read it yet because I got too caught up with presenting a research conference and then Fashion Week happened, but I’ve just renewed the whole stack I have here and I’ll be looking through them this week. TBH I probably won’t have time to read them in full unless they’re extremely relevant to my assignment, but I will get them out once I’m done studying and read stuff properly 😀
Ah, cool. I’d love to hear what you think when you get around to them.
Keep it up Megan.
Wow Meagan! You are such a brave and inspirational woman! Well done you gorgeous thing you!
Meagan,
You are an inspiration. I wish, how I wish I had come across your blogs sooner.
Keep up the delicious point of view towards life you have 🙂
Thanks Joss! x
Am loving your confidence, am slowly getting there thanks to Aussie Curves 🙂
Aussie Curves has been such a big factor for me! If you’d asked me a year ago if I’d regularly post photos of myself online (including photos of me in my underwear), I’d have laughed. It’s made me feel so much more confident in general 😀
You are such an inspirational lady Meagan Kerr!
Thanks Tori!
