I’ve noticed a lot of people talking about how impossible it is to find activewear for plus size women, so for Aussie Curves: Flashback week I wanted to share some new activewear I picked up recently. It is out there, and while we don’t have nearly the same amount of choice as is available to straight size women, it is still possible to find things to exercise in!
As I’m sure many of you understand, finding time in a busy day to exercise isn’t easy. I’m up for work at 5.30am and don’t get home until 6pm at the earliest. By that time, I’m feeling exhausted and I have to cook dinner. So where does the exercise fit in? Well, I have to be a bit creative.
Sometimes I’ll go for a walk during the day, or if I only have a little time then I’ll go for two or three shorter walks – a quick 15 minutes around the block or up the road. Some days I park a little further away and walk to my office. I usually choose to take the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator.
I also do yoga three or four times a week to help rehabilitate my knee after an injury I sustained earlier in the year. I find that practising yoga in the morning fills me with energy for the day to come as well as giving me a nice gentle workout to ease me into the day.
*For all of you experienced yogis out there, I’m aware of how terrible my form is in this photo! I’m definitely not used to doing yoga poses in shoes or in my shed! Back to barefoot in my living room / outdoors for me!
My usual workout outfit consists of pants that fit well and are reasonably lightweight. They have to be reasonably stretchy (especially if I’m bending and stretching in them) and not slip down when I bend over (it’s very annoying having to adjust your clothes all the time). I love these yoga pants from EziBuy, but they’re way too long for me so will need to be taken up. I think the next time I buy workout pants I’m just going to get the cropped version so I don’t have to worry about getting things altered.
The top I wear varies depending on exactly what I’m doing. Today I wore a loose tee to clean out the garage, but for yoga I’d ideally be wearing a cropped top or a fitted singlet – something that won’t flap about and get in the way or ride up while I’m moving.
If you’re on the hunt for plus size activewear, then make sure you keep an eye out on my blog next week – I have a whole post about where you can find great clothes to exercise in! Also, check out my activewear post from earlier in the year.
What’s your favourite way to exercise? What do you wear?

Sara Active Yoga Pants from EziBuy
Active Intent Carmina Shoes from The Warehouse
I’m not too sure about any one else, but I have just discovered active wear in K-Mart, it’s reasonably priced and fits well. It has just come into our K-Mart so unsure if it has been out in others. Still yet to test run it but I tried them on and it fitted well with good stretch and movement.
I too struggle to find appropriate clothing to wear when being active and struggle to find times to fit in a workout being a full time worker, mum, and student! So, walking from one place to another quickly to going the long way is what I’m doing at the moment. Looking into a gym when my son starts school.
