Aussie Curves: Denim

AUSSIE CURVES header

I’m not really a big denim-wearer, because I mostly wear skirts and dresses (or leggings, gosh I love leggings!), but if you’ve been following me on facebook for a while then you probably know of my eternal hunt for a decent pair of jeans. Good news is, I think I’ve found them…

I made the error of buying skinny jeans from ASOS once before (tip: skinny jeans aren’t really made for short people with super fat calves like me), and that really didn’t work out for me, so I decided to go for some that were a wider cut in the calf.

I nabbed these jeans for less than $25, which is probably one of the main reasons I decided to take the risk and buy them. Jeans are easily my most hated item to shop for because I’m so particular about the fit and the fact that I don’t want them embellished with anything (distressing and sequins be gone!), so this really was a last ditch effort for me.

Fortunately they arrived and they fit me! Well, mostly. As with so many pairs of trousers, I will have to take up the hem at the bottom (which I obviously haven’t done yet). Why is it that so many labels think that all fat people are super tall? Stop being lazy pattern makers and simply upsizing the whole pattern, and learn to cut clothes for plus size women for goodness sake! Surely I’m not the only one who has this problem?

Stretching will not make me taller…

In other exciting news, I got some sneakers on sale recently for $9 (yes, I have been bargain shopping to the extreme!). I was prepared to pay a lot more for decent sports shoes, but these are seriously so comfortable – they’re as good as my $180 New Balance sneakers!

The brighter the better, I reckon! They’re great for walking and for everyday wear, so at $9 I think I got a pretty darn good deal!

I’m pretty sure I can’t be the only fat girl that has problems finding great jeans. Let me know your denim woes in the comments, or where you’ve found your dream jeans!

I think the jeans look cute on you. 🙂 I didn’t even know you were short! I thought you’re tall based on the pictures. What’s your height if you don’t mind?

Thanks Chel! I’m 167cm, which is about 3cm above the average height for New Zealand women. However, I have shorter legs and a long body, so pants are usually super long on me!

I agree with Kobi_Jae, I like the rolled up look! Glad you found an awesome pair 🙂 Your sneakers are similar to mine, which were a mega bargain at $30, but $9 is even better!

I don’t own jeans, and I actually don’t expect to. Maybe it’s just that i’ve never found a dream pair, but I find them SO uncomfortable! I don’t think you should take these up, they look rockabilly cute with the little rolled up bottoms! <3

Definitely try the Torrid Jeggings or Ankle Zip Stilettos. So much stretch for the calves and I think you would look like a mega babe in skinny legs.

I have the opposite problem– I have relatively thin legs in proportion to my waist, so I can never get jeans that are skinny enough through the leg!

Torrid love their jeans! Always have to worry about the $225 import limit though which sucks. I’m tall but still have short legs so buy Torrid short jeans.
Second is Autograph- got my first pair of jeans from there the other day and so far am loving them.

I have the opposite problem, I’m 5’9″ and all legs! So most pants are ankle freezers on me unless I can find tall or extra tall haha 🙂 So the only pants i wear are cropped or leggings/jeggings lol

I found ASOS jeans work for me and kept my wardrobe stocked for a number of years after I found them. NOW I wear the Torrid jeans and they come with 3 choices of leg length. Great news for me because even though I’m just under 5’11” I have short legs. Short or regular length for me thanks.

You look fab, love the stripes.
