This week’s Aussie Curves theme is Breaking The Rules, and this is a pretty big deal for me. I’ve waited all week to post this, because today is all about breaking the rules for me. I’m not sure if you can tell, but this is my *so fricken nervous* face…
Today is the first day of shooting for 2014 for my Fat Girls Shouldn’t Wear Stripes project, which is all about breaking the fashion rules that society sets for fat women. I feel privileged to be photographing some of the women you’ve already seen in this project, but this time it’s a little bit different.
This time we are being filmed for a feature on TV. Yep, that’s right – we’re going to be on TV in all of our fat bathing suited glory! Well, the girls will be. I’ll be wearing this glorious bandeau/skirt combination.
Exciting, right? I may look confident but I am definitely quaking in my boots jandals…
So, this is me being brave. Breaking the rules. I’m going to go on television baring my fat belly and arms, photographing other beautiful fat women breaking fashion rules. And we are going to be fabulous!
Wish me luck!

Seafoam velvet bandeau c/- Chubby Cartwheels
ASOS Curve Full Skater Skirt in Longer Length from ASOS

As an overweight woman myself and extremely attractive, I feel we have culpability in not looking accentuated and also in being healthy regardless the size but let’s be honest, this is not flattering nor healthy. I don’t consider my weight healthy but I do look extremely well put together and fashionable. Some things should not be worn, period. I feel the dress in your icon is lovely, but this no. I’m sorry it only makes you look bigger and draws the eye to unflattering aspects your size.
Hi Marni, thanks for commenting. This is exactly the attitude that my Fat Girls Shouldn’t Wear Stripes project talks about – being told that as a fat person I can’t wear something? Oh hell no! I can and will whatever I like! Perhaps you should check out my project – here is a good place to start. Also read this one re: my health. xo
I admire you sooo much for what you are doing! I’m not sure I’d have the courage, but I really hope I would, given the opportunity. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Be fierce!!
You look stunning as ever Megan! I love the confidence you have, it makes me feel good about myself. I can’t wait to see the tv doco when it comes out.
Thanks Amiria!

You look amazing Meagan! You go girl! 🙂
You look amazing! Is it weird, that even though I don’t know you, I am so proud of you! You are being such an amazing person with the work you’ve been doing with body acceptance. Thank you!
Scariest things in life normally have the most amazing outcomes… My fear of socialites reaction to my body holds me back so much… You ladies are amazing and will prob never realise how far stretching your positivity reaches x
We all used to be the same way, Amy! One day at a time hun xo
Oh tell me when you are on please, can’t wait to see it. And you are one amazing person, it is because of people like you that I am finally coming out of hiding – got a long way to go but baby steps 🙂
I’m not sure exactly when it will be on, but I’ll post on my facebook page when I know more! And thank you – that’s exactly why I do this!

You are amazing. Go you!
Awesome you! 😀
You’re showing that you truly are the example that you lead by. Inspirational as always!
Thanks Kate! xo
Great work meagan!
Why is the project limited to 14+ just curious? I think you can definitely be a size 14 or under and still be fat
Hi Ali,
I limited the project to women who wear a 16+ for a number of reasons, the primary one being that my blog is about fashion for size 16 and upward. The project isn’t solely about being fat, it’s about plus size fashion, building self-confidence in a group of women who are constantly put down because of their bodies and reminding women of all sizes that it’s okay to love yourself.

Good luck! You’ll be fabulous!
