One of my favourite places to visit is the Auckland Winter Gardens – it’s always beautiful in there (and warm inside the glasshouses) and there are ever changing displays to enjoy as you stroll around the gardens. It’s the perfect spot to visit when the weather is a bit average but you want to get out and take walk, because most of it is undercover.
At the moment there are some beautiful chrysanthemums in one of the glasshouses (which I honestly never thought I’d say because I’m generally not a big fan of chrysanthemums and shy away from having them in bouquets). Some of them are so tall that I felt dwarfed by them!
The temperature in the glasshouses was quite warm but outside was a bit chilly, which really sums up what’s going on with the weather here at the moment – sometimes it is warm, sometimes it’s cold, and that can change in an instant. While I’m usually a fan of layering, lately all I’ve been wanting to wear are knit tops because they make me feel super snuggly. All I need to wear under them is a singlet, so I don’t feel like I’m overheating when it gets warm.
This turtleneck is one of my current faves because it’s warm enough to keep me warm in the mild Auckland autumn weather and the turtleneck makes it feel even cosier. Plus I can layer a merino top underneath if it’s cold!
There’s something about turtleneck tops and centre parts in my hair that make me feel distinctly ’90s – does anyone else feel me on this one? I’m not a fan of many returning ’90s trends, I think I could get behind those (you can keep your choker necklaces though).
Do you wear turtlenecks? Let me know how you style them!
Meagan wears:
Isolde Roth Anthracite Turtleneck from Navabi (26-28, gifted)
Kate Madison Skinny Jeans from The Warehouse (26, gifted)
Nike Lunarglide 6 in black and coral from Nike (9)
What a classic look. Thanks for the style inspiration! You and the gardens look amazing 🙂
Thanks Annie x
I love wearing a turtleneck top with a sleeveless pullover, although I’m battling to find sleeveless pullovers for ladies in Auckland. The two that I have were bought overseas.
Keep an eye out at EziBuy, I saw some in their autumn/winter media event but am not sure when they’re in stock xx
Gorgeous and the gardens look great to! We are shooting a model there tomorrow for Style Mafia. I love turtle necks especially with my swing pants and under cute vintage frocks
Ooh, how fun! It’s one of my favourite places to shoot, I need to get behind the camera again and photograph someone there.
Unfortunately I’m not a turtle neck person but I do love me some amazing scarves. I find they’re easier to layer in case of a weather change. I also have a sensitive neck that can break out in a rash easily so I try to keep it as free as possible as often as possible.
I think I’m going to have to do a walk around the wintergardens again soon. Maybe with my mom, she’s never been.
Definitely take your mom! Mine had never been either, it was so nice to explore with her.
