Okay lovelies, let’s talk new year’s resolutions. For years mine were the same – lose weight, get out of debt, and quit smoking. Sound familiar? Well, I am pretty happy with my body and have realised that my weight does not define me, I don’t have any debt other than my student loan, and I quit smoking on the 1st of January 2011 (so that will be three years this new year’s day!), so it’s time to move on and make some new resolutions for my future.
I am, by nature, a very generous person who will often go out of her way to do things for others. There are a few people who take advantage of that fact, and so my first resolution this year is to stop giving them the opportunity to do so.
This year I have learned that there are a couple of things that my body doesn’t cope well with: gluten and processed sugar. It’s been a major struggle to give up gluten, but after a few relapses (mostly toast related), I am back to being gluten free. Next on my list is processed sugar. I was sugar-free for about a month and I felt amazing. I had more energy, my inflammation markers (which I get checked regularly because of a previous injury) went way down, and I just generally felt better.
I’ve decided that in 2014 I’m going to severely cut down my processed sugar intake. Goodbye marshmallows, I’m giving you up in favour of fresh blueberries and juicy juicy mangos.
I really want to continue my Fat Girls Shouldn’t Wear Stripes project in 2014, and to be able to travel around New Zealand I need to find some kind of funding source. So … that’s my dream for this year. I want to come and meet you all and take your photograph. First step: find some money. If you happen to have money to fund an amazing arts project that empowers Kiwi women, get in touch with me!
My last resolution for 2014 is to continue to be a positive voice for plus size women and for body positivity. I have some exciting ideas for the year to come, so here’s hoping you like what I have coming up…
What are your new year’s resolutions?

Great list Meagan!
I’m glad you are now longer letting people take advantage of you!
I haven’t got resolutions as such, but I did the list like you did on FB the other day.

I think my biggest lessons this year is losing weight won’t make me happy or change my life or me as a person, and that money doesn’t buy happiness and work life balance is so much more important than chasing the dollar.
so in 2014, I will focus on being healthy and happy 🙂
Happy New Year for tomorrow night ! 🙂
Thanks hun! I think that is a great focus for you, and you’ve made such a great start this year. So proud of you and the hubby for all of your walking! xM
I have three catagories for 2014 and rather than resolutions, they are goals!
Financial: save 10% of my salary so that I actually have an emergency fund…
Health and body: eat foods that make me feel good! Thats less refined sugar and carbs. More wholesome food that I actually make from scratch! Also to keep weight training so that I am strong physically and mentally!
Mind and soul: find an achievable work life balance and keep a journal. Read more and have an hour to myself EVERY DAY.
Those sound like awesome goals Katie! I especially like the idea of having an hour to yourself every day!!! I hope you have a wonderful year.
